290/X or 7990

While the performance is better. i feel that the performance to value is better on the 290 new tech with more features but i guess it Depends on how much you value the features

Still cannot understand how a 290x has better performance to value when it's around 30% slower and more expensive..
If it was 30% cheaper I would agree with u but it ain't.u can get a Asus 7990 for 439 from ocuk and even cheaper else where.

i have seen some people say that the 7990 is going to be good only for a year or so, i dont think so! i reckon if u buy it , u should be good for about 2-4 years tbh
What about when crossfire causes stuttering, straight up doesn't work or even causes negative scaling?
The 290x will seem like good value then

But the guy wanting the card wants it for bf4 which runs flawless on the 7990 a lot better than the 290.
They are both good cards I had the 290 on pre order but changed at last minute to the 7990 really pleased I did.
The 7990 i am sure is a great card and is coming in at a great price however as has been said dual cards can bring a lot of issues with it. I personally like the true audio decoding feature and having things like the latest
dx. Options the 7990 just dont bring to the table

I went from an overclocked 2.5GB 570GTX to the 7990 and couldn't be happier. I wanted the fastest single card solution I could get for the money and the 290s couldn't touch it at the special price that OCuk were selling them for.
The bonus? It's really quiet, no louder than my previous card and it runs really cool - 69 degrees under load (full size case, large front, side and exhaust fans).
It doesn't sound like a worthwhile move for the op, but then a 290 doesn't either unless he goes CF later on. Why would you want to down grade in the meantime?
You could add another 7990 later on, but perhaps that is overkill.
I'd just sit tight if I were you, take the mrs for a nice weekend away instead

The choice is easy really. This is not about wanting more performance as you already have 7990 performance. You want to upgrade to something thats new and shiny to have some fun with. It has to be a 290/x which should be seeing more driver improvement's which means more benching to up your scores. I got a feeling you would want to stick an accelero on it like with your 7970 so some tweaking to be done as well.
r9 290x gets my vote simply because more fun will be had.

Bah! I hope you did get the 290X, overclocked it'll be all over that 7990 like a tramp on chips!
