Did you order from Amazon? If so, cancel it so I'll have a better chance of getting one on release day ;) :p

I did order on Amazon.

But knowing that you may get it, I think I'll keep it out of spite - you MS/XBone fanboi, you!!!

Just kidding :D

I really want to get caught up in the hype and fun of having a console from launch at least once in my life while I'm still young enough to get excited(?) about such things.

But common sense keeps reminding me of my credit card balance(s)...

Cancel so my order gets bumped up please!:p

I still have no delivery estimate on mine :(

7 reported faulty PS4s so far (maybe)

There are seven reported cases of defective Playstation 4 consoles. There were about 4000 winners of the Taco Bell contest. Plus media outlets that received a retail unit earlier in the week.

Defective Units

NeoGaffer Dylx: Was downloading an update for Battlefield 4
2 or 3 from Reddit: Unknown specifics
Twitch Streamer: Was downloading DCUO when it stalled. He unplugged the console. It wouldn't work properly after that.
1 IGN unit: See below
1 Kotaku unit: "Here are the facts: In the past week, my Kotaku colleagues and I have used one pre-release PS4 and three retail PS4s with no problems. I've also heard from fellow gaming reporters who've used their PS4s with no problems. But the first retail unit that Sony provided me failed to work when I plugged it into a TV in Kotaku's office. A colleague and I were able to compare it to a second PS4 that did work and we found that the issue was rather simple: the bad unit had a faulty HDMI jack that we couldn't fully plug an HDMI cable into. It couldn't make a solid connection and therefore, apparently, couldn't transmit a stable signal to our TV. We tried different cables and monitors. The issue was with the console."

Touch wood nothing happens but if anyone gets a faulty unit , is it best to phone Sony to sort it or get a replacement from the shop where bought in the first year?

Return it to the store. When I worked at Sainsbury's we were told to "encourage" customers to deal with the console manufacturer first, but from a legal standpoint your contract is with the retailer and they're obliged to give you a refund/replacement.

Your contract is with the shop who should just give you a brand new one but I think it depends where you bought it from. I think mail order places are likely to just send a new one out and collect your old one but retail places will probably try to repair it. I may be taking rubbish as none of my consoles have ever bust so I have no hard facts. :p

well I will be getting one from Shopto , which I have never used before for consoles but there site does state something about 1 year warranty on consoles.

Lol No.

1. Drive Club is due out EARLY next year, there probably won't be a price drop until 2015

2. there won't be a lack of games for long. PS4 has the most games in development out of all of the consoles by quite some margin

Trust me if driveclub is an 8 or a 9 I will buy a ps4 the very day it comes out by trading in my mountain of ps3 stuff. Gonna need a van to take it all to the shop basically.

Shopto pick up broken consoles and replace with a brand new one there and then as far as im aware.

that's good to know , I may also get the extra warranty but I dont think its worth doing that until the end of a consoles first year?

as if I had a playstation extra warranty plan it would be linked to the consoles model numbers and any replacement from a shop would invalid it.

7 out of 4000 is about a 0.175% failure rate, which is a little higher than I'd expect tbh. That would mean 1750 out of every 1 million consoles would fail. I'm sincerely hoping that these are just isolated incidents.

It should be less than that, 2 of the failures are not part of that 4000 because they are from the batch sent out by Sony (we don't know how many they have actually sent out), that 4000 batch is just the ones from TacoBell

If you bought a warranty plan direct from Sony, you would need to contact them regarding any issues, not the store (who might offer their own warranty).

yeah thats what I thought , do I have to get the plans within a set time or can they be purchased towards the end of the consoles first year?

because anything in the first year I would go to the shop I bought it.

Guys, important question here for me. Outside of Remote Play (which I don't think I'll ever need thanks to having a man cave) is there any other use the PS4 has for the VITA? I bought a Vita last Christmas and to be honest I could probably count on two hands how many hours I've actually played on it, all my mobile gaming is done on my 3DS XL. I was thinking of trading it in unless it serves some purpose to the PS4 outside of Remote Play.

Seeing as all consoles come with 1 year warranty, I would imagine you could buy the extended one anytime before it ends as it would only kick in after 12 months from the console's purchase anyway.

That's been my experience of them in the past with other products.
