Does anyone here work in recruitment?

It is if you're not good enough for the job :p

KaHn

Means it wasn't up to scratch, try harder.

EDIT Bugger, beaten like a....

Also is it common to not hear anything back for weeks at a time after a CV has been submitted to a company via the recruiter?

Not necessarily I have confidence Jbod has the skills and can deliver.
It probably means that the agent is a ****** who doesn't really have a job opening but is pooling until the next big hit.

I've hit the job market yesterday and have been interviewing the swines - I always talk to an agent prior to sending my CV. One guy I spoke to obviously didn't have anything solid behind him. Another was pretty good who surprised me by talking about puppet manifests and sharded deployments - interesting - never had an agent who is up to date.

To everyone who came back to me, you funny bunch! :p

I never said which side of the recruitment process I am on however ;)

You've got trust.

I was thinking the same thing, over the past week I've had a massive increase in the number of calls that I've received from recruitment agencies.

Things might just be picking up at the moment and more opportunities are becoming available. There's never enough qualified candidates in certain fields. Although I'd take it as a compliment.

I hate recruitment consultants  and having worked in the industry for nearly 10 years I know why they ask what they do and now know how to respond :p

Although one bugger caught me off guard :/ I wondered why he asked what job site my CV was on when he apparently already had my CV

No question ever asked by a recruiter or headhunter is innocent, every question has a purpose. Even the most seemingly benign questions have useful answers :)

Ye I hated it at my first place. Ringing IT managers at 11am and being the 7th or 8th consultant to try and tap them up that morning got really old really quick.

Question to recruiters, why do you get so offended (after you cold call our office) when I tell you on the phone that our company isn't hiring at this current time then you persist to ask me about how many people work in the company I work for.

I even had a recruiter 'threaten' me over the phone because I put the phone down on him after I told him that there we were not recruiting and I must get back to work now.

Depends on which kind of industry you work in. That kind if behaviour would almost certainly never happen in certain industries, but some of the things I hear don't always surprise me.

If that situation were to happen (a recruiter refusing to believe you aren't hiring) it would likely be a result of a combination of the recruiter hearing from a candidate that they'd interviewed with your firm and that particular recruiter being desperate to hit certain figures.

Well the fact was that the company I work for hasnt been hiring since dec last year and I filled that spot with no recruiters involved.

He first rang up and asked to speak to my boss who is the owner of the company and he did, when my boss told him we were not recruiting he said good bye and put the phone down.

The recruiter phones again, asking to speak to my boss, I told the recruiter he was currently busy, I then told him we are not recruiting, said good bye and put the phone down.

He rings AGAIN! asks me is this our business address and proceeds to read out our address and I say yes why? "because I'm going to come down there." I then ask "are you threatening me?" he replies "I am".

I purely stated to him there and then that no one threatens me and put the phone down.

I was shocked and annoyed that I didn't get him company name but it's amazing he couldn't cope with rejection. I mean wow come on.

I like recruiters that ring up and ask "are you currently recruiting?", "no? ok thanks bye!"

TBH they are the scum of the earth.

I was merely interested in targets, because recently I've been getting more offers recently and it's getting a little annoying. One even had the cheek to call my office and ask to be put through to me stating it was 'a private call'.

This seems to be standard practice for most of them.
I often get calls thinking that I'm a hiring manager who will place some of their candidates, even though I'm nothing of the sort.
I had one guy call me on Friday and after me giving him a stream of non-committal answers still ended up sending me a load of CVs and then called me twice again yesterday.

Hopefully me reporting him to the internal line for harassing phone calls will stop him :)

Report him to police for sexual abuse.

Would you mind writing out some of those questions and good replies for peeps on here?

I generally talk rubbish and try to answer all questions like a Politician, in essence not giving an answer.
