AMD Radeon ‘Vesuvius’ with two Hawaii XT GPUs

Oh give over, that image and others like it have posted so many times over so many weeks its insane.

Time to get over it and move on, its got way beyond a joke. its like that bloke making fun of someone way to much for way to long he starts to get some very strange looks while always protesting "its only humour"

I made the image, so I am sure I know how many time I posted it. I shan't post it again though, as I didn't reallise it upset you that much....

I don't think it will be that hot (if true). The 7990 has a mean cooling setup, I'd wager something similar on a 290X-x2 would be ample.

It could get very interesting if nvidia slap a pair of full fat ti's on a pcb too :D

I can see it having a decent cooler in truth and would need to. I would imagine that Nvidia are working on a 790 (Ti maybe?) and would also need a beefier cooler.

I'm NOT saying AMD will do this, I'm saying the only way I would do this if I was in charge over there, was to be running some risk production wafers on 20nm and put a couple expensive and very rare 20nm parts on one card.

20nm risk production is under way at GloFo and Tsmc with products shipped, but risk production/test wafer situation means yields are in the toilet(though that cost is often absorbed by the foundry, because they at least get some cash back, otherwise they'd do it themselves and get nothing back). But for instance if you want to ship a 290x on 20nm, you need to make certain of X amount of chips being produced a week before you can. For something like a dual gpu card with a ridiculous cost and incredibly low volume to start with, like launching with 100 limited editions available and getting 100 more a week. Think the 1000 unit Asus special edition situations... then risk production could get you enough working cores to potentially do it.

Like I said it's just the only way I would do it, someone at AMD is probably doing some kind of ridiculous dual 28nm card with silly power and slapping a silly price on it. More of a concept card at a price that interests very very few people.

Of course, they could ship it only with either waterblock or a H100 style watercooling solution. One thing is interesting would be how well xfire would work on a dual gpu card with the new style of xfire, communication is clearly improved and is good over pci-e, would that improve further still on the same card?

Thats getting very old and repetitive now ^^^ a thousand times over weeks on end and you start to wonder if some people aught to be in a padded cell.

You don't see people posting this over and over and over and over again...

Anyway... The R# 2## series GPU's are part on the volcanic islands range, hence the name Hawaii and Vesuvius

This was done on 320.18, can you push your cards to top it. Check out the temps in the pic as well.:D:p:D

Lets get back on topic ^^^^

This isn't a thread about Drivers, or the 290 series cooler, other threads exist for that.

----

I would hate to see the price of both Dual GK110 and Hawaii chip's on one PCB, i would imagine a PCB to accommodate all that isn't going to be cheap, we would be looking at £1000 + RRP of the cheapest one. IMO.

Yes someone bringing up the subject of the 320.18 drivers was a bit out of place lol.:D:p:D

I didn't, i used it to make a point, look again at it, i would like to move on and get back on topic, please.

Far to many of these threads end up off topic, its becoming a problem.

Woooooooow, it's gonna take some major surgery to remove that stick mate ;)

Take a chill pill ffs, it's a forum not life or death!!

Wow - this looks immense!!!

Words. Mouth. Taken.

LOL at the cooler.

My money is on this being faster and hotter than the Nvidia version, ala 690 vs 7990.

Add mantle into the mix and this will ridicule any nvidia gpu known to man most likely.

I fail to see what point you were trying to make, apart from the fact that you could be a trekkie.

I agree that the thread should stay on topic but I think you were erroneous in taking it off topic.

If you agree that the thread should stay on topic, perhaps you can refrain from replying to this post for the sake of having the last word.

I will not be posting any more on this subject either.

Two Hawaii's. Two 512bit buses. 128 ROPS. Roasting temps. What's not to like? :D

I expect this will get the 7990 cooler treatment, or a more refined version. As much as the cooler in the OP makes me laugh, there is no chance of it happening.

7990 cooler MK II. LT calling it here and now.
