*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

That's like saying that books are bargains nowadays compared to when there was no such thing as a printing press. It doesn't mean that artificially inflating the prices is a good idea.

That's a different subject. My point still stands. Gaming is cheaper now than it was in the past, at least when you compare console gaming from the 90s.

I think the launch lineup for ps4 is actually quite good. if you aren't a pc gamer or don't have a pc capable to play games, a ps4 has some cracking games for it.

Folks just expect way too much at times. Ps4 has got some good multiplats, killzone will still be enjoyed by many, resogun, war thunder, war frame, FIFA, madden and some will still enjoy knack. it has war games, sports games, shooting games, driving games, adventure games and soon pinball games , its not that bad IMO.

I'm a pc gamer, but I'm looking forward to ps4.

You're right.

But I have no idea why that point is relevant. I've not paid more than £40 for a game since I owned an N64 (apart from Donkey Konga, but that came with bongos!), and have no intention of starting to do so now.

So we can ascertain that anyone upgrading the HDD for a speed boost is pretty much a mentalist. (£££ on an SSD for a few seconds?)

If it's for more storage though, which I would assume is most peoples motive, then it makes a lot more sense.

Assuming N64 and SNES games could be had for £40, which they largely could not, don't you think inflation over the last 20 years should have made them significantly more than £40?

This year has gone so fast, I can't believe were almost at launch. This last week and a half is going to be a killer.

No. I think that decreased cost of production, and gaming's move from being niche to being a commodity, should have brought prices down, as was seen with the PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360, Wii, and Gamecube, and has been seen in all other forms of media, with the arguable exception of book publishing (in hard format, not ebooks) which has had to maintain high prices due to a stagnant system of distribution.

I think that companies bumping prices early in a console's life are justified in doing so to earn money from early adopters, which is why my question was "do you think that prices will remain high", not "why are prices currently high?"

I agree, I'm fortunate because I have both consoles pre-ordered so I don't have to wait as long for my first taste of next gen plus I have two very busy work related weeks ahead of me so the days should go by faster. My work day is almost over as I type this but it feels like I have only been here for 2 hours max as opposed to 6.

Can't seem to find any reports about people testing different racing wheels on the PS4 yet - specifically want to know if my DFGT will work on it!

I wish i had pre orderd one ealier i kept putting it off now theres no where left taking pre orders so i can get one for xmass looks like last minuet ebay is my own option and they are going for silly money on there

So something weird has just happened with my ASDA pre order.

I did it ages ago along with an Xbox One deposit, but only opted to use the PS4 one as I got my Xbox elsewhere. The PS4 is fully paid up by credit card, however I've just received a refund for both £20 deposits :p

Checked my order online and it's still showing as being placed.

They did something similar with GTA5, I cancelled that with ASDA, got a refund, and they still sent me the game on release day. I'm not complaining, but if it's happened twice to me, they must surely be losing out with other people too?

Anyone have an idea of the expected availabilty of the PS4 for those that have not pre-ordered for Christmas?

Bet you will be able to walk into anywhere and get one. Sony have nailed this.

I can only speak for the USA. I personally pre-ordered one back in June and rec'd mine on launch day. I also pre-ordered an Xbox ONE, to which I'm receiving one on 22nd.. I pre-ordered that only in Sept though, and it was only last week that they said, I was getting it on launch day.

Anyway moving on, I really like the PS4, and decided that it was better to have a 2nd rather than the xbox one.. So i went about to all the stores this weekend, and yesterday trying to find one so that I could just cancel my XBOX one order. For love nor money could i find one.. I was hoping that the ebayers, after realizing that there wasn't all that to be made, just would take them back for a refund.. Which is what happened a lot with the Wii U... Initially sold old, but all the peeps that bought to sell on ebay ended up taking them to the store to get their money back. So i accepted that i probably wasn't going to be able to bag a new PS4 before christmas, unless i shelled out $600 on ebay.

However I put an add out offering to swap my XBOX one for a sealed PS4, and i had loads of takers, so many that i upped it and said, xbox one and $50 for a sealed PS4... Deal struck ! Swapping out on Thurs I didn't pay tax on the xbone, and i would have paid tax on the ps4, if i picked it up from a store. Ordering online to avoid tax, FORGET IT, you'll never get one before christmas here in the USA, so in answer to your question, i very much doubt you'll find one sitting around in the stores.. Especially given this is a worldwide launch.. With the USA being given priority with stock.. As its the most competitive market against the xbone.. Japan, will NOT touch the xbone with a barge pole, and EU has always leaned more towards Sony than MS.

Actually I think come closer to the time the ebayers may be able to command up towards $1000 for one. Just my gut as soon as people realize they're not able to buy one anywhere.

I don't recall prices for any of those consoles, except perhaps the Wii having a lower price point for their games.

To answer your question though, yes it's likely they will come down and they are milking the first adopters. Don't like it? Don't adopt early.

This might sound dumb but are all the high street shops going to be stocking consoles in store after the release date? I understand people who want to pre order it to guarantee it on the dayof release etc, but is there not consoles allocated to shops so you can just go in and buy one? or will we not see them in shops until next year?

The only way you'll get one is if you camp out the shop the night before, and that has to be with a shop that's keeping a few back in hope that they get some campers outside for publicity, and not sold everything via preorder.
