4 Good Quiet 120mm Fans between £20-30?

Hey, I am looking for 4 new fans for a push pull on my h100i, the two I have at the moment are loud so looking for quiet mainly. Also need to be in the price range of 20-30£ the cheaper the better, but I know to cheap won't last and wont be quiet.
 
Corsair SP120 are what you want :)

There are available in dual packs to save a bit of money and also 3 or 4 pin variants.
 
Sythe Gentle Typhoons? not the 1850rpm versions but the lower 1300/1500 rpm ones (or there about) :)
 
Two Corsair SP120 for £25 will be as effective and probably quieter than 4 cheap fans: push-pull really doesn't give that much extra cooling, in most cases less than the difference between a good fan and a cheap one.
 
NO, NO NO and NO again, those are CASE fans. they have NO static pressure for radiator cooling. use the SP120's, The Gentle Typhoons or some bitfenix spectre pro's(Not the best choice these, they are alright but nothing on the other two)

dont bother with push-pull its a 1-3c difference at best, more noise and power for not a lot of much. also saves you £25 from having to buy 4.


im ditching push-pull the moment i get a 240mm rad

If I went push only on my H80, it could free up the top exhaust grill for some VRM airflow.

Yes there are stats to back that up, all available on the Corsair website.

It's even written in the product description on the site.

AF = Air-flow. For when there's little/no restriction to the airflow, both on intake and exhaust of the fan. Typical usages are as front/floor intakes and rear exhaust (when not attached to a radiator).

SP = Static Pressure. For when the air flow is impeded and requires a bit more force to push the air through that restriction. Typical usages are with radiators and large air heatsinks.

SP fans can be used as case fans without much difference to the AF. In some cases where the intake at the front has the HDD cage right behind it then SP fans might actually be preferential due to the flow restriction because of the cage/HDD.

Thanks - that's the first time I've ever really understood that SP fans can be used in place of AF fans.

Static pressure and CFM specs are maximum fan can do.
Static pressure is maximum lift of water in column when fan stops moving air. Static = stopped
CFM is maximum airflow when there is no resistance. Clean open benchtop.

Problem is neither is what we see in real world use.
There is always some resistance if only a wire grille.
And it does not take much resistance to dramatically lower the airflow of an AF fan with a static pressure rating of 0.5mm/H2O versus a SF rated 3.1mm/H2O.

When the AF fan reaches 0.5mm/H2O resistance it has no airflow/cfm while the SP fan is still flowing most of it's rated airflow/cfm.

And that's why fans with higher static pressure ratings are better case fans.. because cases typically have a grill, filter, HDD cage, cables, etc. restricting their airflow.

Silverstone tested several grilles to see how much they restricted the airflow of a low static pressure fan. Wire grille & hexagonal holes were lowest flowing 71-72% of unrestricted fan's air. No idea what fan they used but obviously low static pressure rating.

So whats a good 140mm fan with good static pressure?
Depends a lot on what you want to do with it. Good static pressure for case or air cooler is lower than good static pressure for radiators.. and the thicker/more fins per inch the radiator, the more static pressure needed.

Id personally just get 2 very good pwm fans. push pull is only worth it you have really poor fans and or a really thick radiator (which the h100 is not)

if you control them via a fan controller or if your motherboard can control 3 pin fans then that opens up a lot more options for a better price.

I'd say push/pull is more useful for high FPI rads or when using relatively weak/low SP fans.
My Monsta rads didn't really benefit from push/pull and now run in push (240) and pull (360) fwiw.
 
I've looked a few times now, and I've been unable to find any stats to show the benefits (or otherwise) of Push-Pull on an H80/H100

Anyone got a direct link?

I'd be very keen to buy a single SP120HPE instead of the 2 stock fans, as I could really do with getting some cooling onto the VRM, which is a VERY tight fit at the moment, but could be totally uncovered with a single fan.
