*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Do you have a link to one of these?

(I just searched 'Nexus 5 speaker mod' on YouTube and my own video of N5 v S4 came out top result  :D )

the video is somewhere in that thread and in a foreign language.

doesn't matter if it's foreign it's so easy to do you just follow the video on mute.

that's why you cant see it on youtube, it's probably called sidfsoidfjaiadj asidaid nexus 5

Ahh, thanks. I did find one video, this one -

Hmm, do I have the balls to do the mod and make and English speaking video... maybe later tonight.

I don't have the poking device. Ideas for an ever day item I could use? A needle?

On a slightly related note, Vodafone have just rolled out 4G in Newcastle for all you geordies out there wanting to be on it.

It cost me about an extra 5 quid on my contract a month but its jumped me onto unlimited texts, unlimited minutes and unlimited 4G usage (drops to 2GB/month after 3 months) alongside a free 6 months of spotify premium. Not complaining at all.

My first N5 had a problem with GPS. Took an age to initially lock and then kept loosing lock when driving. New RMA device I received today is fine so must have been a hardware fault.
Same HW revision.

i imagine anything which is metal and small enough could be used, like a tiny screwdriver like the ones you use to screw in hard drives, etc.

a needle will be too small imo

as for the mod, it clearly should improve loudness, sound leakage and the problem with only the left hole working and preventing you from muting the device accidently.

apparently there is another version of the speaker which is better

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529878&page=11

this guy ordered a "original" part and it was a different model number and it sounded better.

he bought from ebay and theres a link in there also.

could be a lot easier than modding it just to replace the speaker with a better one or even do both.

i don't trust myself to do the mod or even open it up but andy may want to

I think I can see why you ended up on ignore, you don't listen.

Its not about listening, its about point of view. My view is that technically the G2 is a better phone because it is the same as the N5 but the N5 has lesser internals to make it fit the budget. There is no arguing that the N5 is a clone of the G2. Its just what LG do to make the Nexus. Now, what am I saying here that is incorrect or wrong?

In terms of the money the N5 is a great phone but its not the best. It comes with stock android and quick OTA updates but Google Edition phones also have that. They cost a lot more but they are technically better phones than the N5.

What users want and the end use is irrelavant when talking about technical specs.

A minute ago you were talking about better and best but now when it suits you we're talking about comparing on a technical level. You're not interested in what others have to say so why are you even here? You've already made your mind up and anymore time spent on you is time wasted.

The LG G2 is better.
Is the Nexus 5 not based on the G2? Yes it is. Whats the difference.......the N5 has slighter lesser internals (smaller battery and different camera optics to name just a few). The fact that N5 has stock android and gets updates faster does not make it a better phone. Stock android is pretty bare. Its custom roms that make Android such a pleasure to use.

Like i said before, the N5 is great for the price range but it sure isn't as good as what its made out to be. Its biggest selling point is Stock Android and OTA's. Out of the box it not as good as the higher end phones and thats what makes them better phones.

I've bought one and I'll report back here. Already taken the phone apart to fix the power button rattle I had. It's so easy to remove the back.

Finally got around to actually finding out how to change the display density (for some reason I'd always assumed it would be difficult), and it's awesome!

Dropped it from the standard of ~485 down to 400, so much more on screen now! Probably not great for those with worse eyes, but if you can still read it then it's amazing.

The LG G2 is a better phone for one. Why? Because the Nexus 5 is based on it but with slightly cheaper parts to make it fit the price bracket.

So yes, technically the G2 is a better phone.

Technically the iPhone 5S is better too. There are so many technically better phones out there.....

Technically better at double the price in some cases too.

It is the best phone by far in its price bracket why you are trying to compare it to phones that are priced a lot higher is beyond me.

Personally I prefer bare & then I can add whatever I want onto it. You don't even need to install custom ROMs nowadays with xposed framework. I don't want a bloated mess like the S4.

For the record I am using an HTC One, I got bored of sense within a month & half & I'm now running KK on it.

I wish it was a stock feature on all phones - a must have

So, I'm also having the issue of the microphone being complete crap. Rang my parents a couple of times, they could barely hear me. Recorded a quick test video, hissy/static all over the place. Have read that it's a noise cancellation issue, any way to easily disable this so I can test?

Really don't fancy having to RMA this but a phone that can't be a phone is pretty ****ing useless.
