Johan Andersson discusses AMD's revolutionary Mantle API

I like the way he says the consoles are good because they can code more directly to the GPU with a thinner driver.
And the consoles have shown that using this approach they can not hold 60fps at under 1080p.
I can't wait to see if they bring that across to the PC. :)

The game plays very nicely on the xbox 360. Whatever they do to make it play like that, i would welcome that on the pc with mantle.

It does indeed look pretty nice on the 360 despite the age of the hardware. Seen a few vids of footage on the new xbox one and gotta say it looks way better again. Though ill stick with the pc myself.

Consoles cannot do 1080p60 because they are puny.

The new ones might get close after a few years when people have worked out enough speedup tricks. Take a look at the demoscene, people today are able to do amazing things with Amigas and C64s that would've been thought impossible in their heyday.

The new consoles can't even manage BF4 at 60fps and 1080p though. Xbox One is upscaling it from 720p native! Seems like they are more outdated on release than they have been before.

They've always been outdated, but they'll be utilised better and better until the day the new ones come out. Matt's not saying it looks better but that the same hardware in an Xbox one does better than in a PC. Can a 7870 run bf4 at 1080p on a PC? NO.
