Help your uncle jack, off a horse.

Punctuation. Learn it. :D

I don't know what is worse, that spelling and grammar are so often beyond appalling that they need correcting, or that someone is actually bitching about them being corrected.

People should be grateful that someone has taken the time to help them not to sound like a ****.

I have only a very rudimentary grasp of English and this has hindered my learning of another language because half the time I don't even understand what the ******* English instructions are on about.

Been seriously considering taking some adult education to sort it out.

Peasants should be locked up until they can make proper use of the English language, and if that means porridge for me, so be it.

Saying things like 'brought' instead of 'bought' when talking about having purchased something is just plain wrong. I mean, I probably couldn't be bothered to correct someone on a forum for it but it doesn't annoy me if someone else does because at the end of the day it's incorrect.

Surely the offender is being done a favour by being corrected as it may save them the embarrassment of seeming like a primary school child, rather than the literate adult they should be.

Yet they wonder why Britain is thick. Oorah!

Liberals man, they hate being told what to do.

They don't need correcting though, Most people just want to type a post and move on without double checking it for any potential spelling mistakes or grammatical errors.

I will often post, spot a spelling error and think to my self is it really worth the time to edit ?
My message has been conveyed in an understandable way if some people want to get all pedantic then they surely have to much time on their hands?
GET A LIFE!

When a bad standard becomes standard, then what? thats how it's going. It's cool to be dense!

It won't become the standard though at least on this forum people follow the examples set.
my spelling used to be atrocious on here until I decided to up my game to blend in more and added a UK spell check to firefox.

My punctuation is still pretty bad but at least I try.
Great walls of text on the other hand will never be acceptable

Try some other forums around the net, we have a pretty good standard here

It's not just this forum. Britain is falling big time with standards in every form.

It's nowhere near as bad these days. A few years back it got pretty silly on these forums with the likes of kylew and he all-out war on grammar. Him and his cronies took pretty much every thread they posted in off topic if somebody so much as missed an apostrophe. Got himself perma'd though. go figure :o

People who get annoyed with others grammar and spelling just need to get a life in my opinion. Are you really that arrogant that you wont answer someone who has made spelling mistakes??
It also makes me laugh when people assume that someone may be thick/a chav/scum because their spelling and grammar is bad. I am sure I have seen on more than one occasion that there are some famous writers who are known for having bad spelling/grammar etc?? Jane Austin and Agatha Christie were two of them, they didn't do too badly :)

There is a distinct different between someone writing incomprehensible rubbish, and someone who just has bad spelling and/or grammar. Seems that some people can't differentiate between the two and like to pick fault in the smallest of mistakes.

I don't think the poor English something of a big issue on this forum, it's actually pretty good aside from a few people who when you read their posts you think "What the hell are you even talking about?".

This is going to be entertaining now that the posse are chiming in.

What I find funny is reading some foreigners and listening to them in person have a better command of the english language than some British people. Sometimes it's beyond embarrassing.

Grammar nazi or no grammar nazi, there's nothing worse than multiple expletives. I think it's because as opposed to a grammar or spelling mistake, where you'd be leaving something out by mistake, multiple expletives involves you purposefully and knowingly being a douche bag.

Pretty much this. A prime example of this is I'm seeing more and more rediculious as the 'proper' spelling of ridiculous and I've only seen this in online forums.

Comparing an online forum post to award winning writers. Good comparison there......

really?! :(

Terrible Americanism. Stop watching programmes aimed for the American teenage market and you'll learn better descriptions for shower bag people.

That's exactly the point though isn't it?? We are just posting on a forum..why does it matter so much?? Why do people get so annoyed about it. People come here to relax and enjoy the discussion, not an English test lol. If you can't understand a post fair enough, but if you can then what does it matter??

My reasoning for comparing against writers was more to show that because someone has bad grammar or spelling, it doesn't make them thick like some like to believe around here.
