Interesting visit from the Police this morning.

That would also imply Dimple's mother was hanging out there too ;)

It was outside NISA next door to the Post Office - https://www.google.com/maps/preview...998!4f13.1!4m2!3d52.9892133!4d-2.159234&fid=5

He said he had gone in to buy a phone card to ring his mate in Belgium but got to the counter and realised his wallet was missing so immediately thought it was at his mates and would get it the following day.
My Mum must have been coming out while he was going in.
What idiot wouldn't immediately ring their mate though to make sure?

Totally agree, on the few occasions I have lost my wallet, I go into panic mode. No way in the world I would leave it until the next day. Still sounds fishy to me or he really is an ultimate tool.

A similar situation happen to me once, well I say similar it involved a wallet, one of the group of people I was with was at a night club, there was probably about 12 to 15 people in the group and we all sat together near the bar. I went off for a walk with some friends around the club and came back about 20 mins later went to the bar to get a drink and then noticed one of the party I was with had left his wallet on the bar, I picked it up and went off to find the group and hand back his wallet. About 5 mins later after I had been looking for them for a while I was stopped by a bouncer and told to give the wallet back to the guy who it belonged to, of course I tried to explain the situation but they didnt want to know and accused me of stealing it but that was never my intention, I had even told one of the girls in the party that I had found the lads wallet and ask if she had seen him but I was ejected by the bouncers so couldnt get her to back up my story.

It will be a Biometric Residence Permit. Cost to replace is £38. There will obviously be records held by the Home Office as well.

Not sure where the £1000 comes from, although iirc failure to report a loss can result in prosecution which carries a maximum penalty of a £1000 fine.

This is exactly the card because I couldn't understand what Leave To Remain meant.
(Obviously not the EXACT card because he is a bloke)

Do the wrong thing £82 up. Do the right thing get accused of theft.

I would have felt very insulted if i was the OP as the police could have put their brains in gear before accusing the him of theft.

T**** M*****... I will guess something like Tariq Mohamed.

Very very cold

HOWEVER he has been in touch today, apologised and he's offered my Mother a gift to say thank you but I told him she would say no.
He said his mates had scared him about me being a 'trap' and I could end up taking his car and everything else so he rang the Police :D
The Police obviously told him I was OK because I'd complained they had disturbed my Doctor Who episode so therefore I must be a geek/nerd.

If you have a previous stamp in your passport rather than the indefinite leave to remain biometric card, then you have to do the full application process for one.
So losing your passport can cause you great financial loss.
Unless this has changed in the past few months.

The thing is we had a good talk on the phone about what his expertise was and what I did. I'm hoping that this is something to do with Barclays although I still don't understand why he didn't come at 6pm last night as arranged. Perhaps he panicked.

Forgot to mention there was also £82 in the wallet so it wasn't a case of binning it.
There was also a total of 28 cards in it including Driving License, NHS SmartCards, other bank cards, shop cards and the special card.
It was a very thick wallet and when I first opened it every card fell out :)

Every card fell out and you counted them? It must have been a pretty impressive explosion of cards to warrant that!

Besides 28 cards there were dozens of shop receipts and an HSBC calculator thingy.
Took me bloody ages to pick them up.

I advised him today to make photocopies of his important cards and leave the real ones hidden at home.

If it had no money in just bin it, anyone with a bit of common sense would have cancelled the cards in there straight away. Not worth the hassle.

edit: if he carrying a £1000 pound card he's a dumb ass too.

You won't last long round here with that attitude.:(

I think it is common for the thief to phone up the person who they stole it from and tell them they found their property, only to ask for money for it to be returned. Sometimes people will pay more money to get their id and things back than they would have in a wallet because they don't want to go through the hassle of getting the ID and cards again. But considering op only said that he had it and did not demand anything in return, i don't see how police could be confused.
