Domino's Pizza store tells staff 'speak English'

Reminds me of my first job in a warehouse, fresh out of school, everyone speaking polish except me and some other english guy who I spoke to, then the bosses / office staff were all English and the 2 managers.

Company has gone bust now though.

Whenever I hear a certain song it brings back memories of me working there, it annoys me :p.

So I'm behind Dominos on this one although I wouldn't mind if they spoke in their own language a few times, just not all the time (like they did at my first job).

Ridiculous.

One should be free to converse in any language. I made an effort to learn basic Polish and Portuguese when I worked with a lot of them.

The English :rolleyes::(:confused:

We live and work in England, of course you can't speak English and you are a dirty ******* racist to suggest that people should.

Worked in a store in London not long ago, the 100% foreign staff spoke amongst themselves in a non English language, it was fairly obvious however that they were taking the ****.

Work in this country? Speak our damn language.

I've asked store workers questions about the location of items vital to our work before and they didn't even know what I was talking about due to their lack of English skills.

We had a member of our own staff inform us after we left our dinner break so there is that?

If you have a customer facing roll you should be able to speak the national language well. If you can't then you shouldn't be working there.

Thing is I understand the position of Dominoes they want people to feel comfortable working in their work place. However banning or threatening disciplinary action because a couple of staff share a common language and feel happy to converse in it is daft.

As long as the staff speak to customers and to other staff in a polite and professional manner I don't get why this had to be blown out of proportion.

The guy who quit was being completely petty and daft to quit his job over it. But at the same time I don't understand the excitement of making a fuss about it in the first place.

Come to this country - you should learn English tbh. Easier said than done, as I book the interpreters across my NHS trust for patients that don't know English. Mostly Eastern European, Polish, Czech, Russian etc.

Do people get offended when someone speaks another language around them?

if you are part of a team you should speak whatever language the team understands.

People coming overe here should be able to communicate in english or go home.

I wouldn't expect to move to a foreign country and only speak my native language

What about people who are from here yet are bilingual? Should they be punished because of other peoples limited language skills?

Like me for example, fluent in 4 languages with English being my native tongue.

Il contribute 2pence here, Ordered Dominos, phone rings as he cant find my flat, (fair enough it can be a bit of a pain) Asian man starts talking in poor English, I explain to him where my flat is, he doesn't seem to be grasping my very basic directions especially when I say the words "traffic lights" he went quiet after I said this twice.

Anyway, I said il come down and try and find you, so I go downstairs and he's wandering around down the road, I wave, he walks up the road. I didn't notice at first but he was holding the pizza box thing vertically..... obviously the pizza will be ruined and it was, phone dominos to get a replacement.

The phone rings again, a different Asian man asks where my flat is, I thought I was going to have a seizure at this point, upon saying the words "traffic lights" I was met with silence again.... totally bizarre, anyway he found the place in the end. The influx of Asians into the food game has increased over the years for sure, just look at KFC, this isnt a problem obviously.... unless they can't speak english.

OT: Offended for being asked to speak english in england? Deal with with.
