who was hunting for a 2.5T Titanium X mondeo?

These are okay. The interior is a bit 90s Kenwood mini system in appearance but very well screwed together and made using good materials. Perhaps testament to the build quality was the fact that the car I had a blast in was a 59 plate with 70k on the clock which has spent a lot of its life at the hands of a not too mechanically sympathetic government agency. Everything worked as it should and there were no squeaks or rattles to speak of.

They are quite rapid I guess, not going to set the world on fire as stock. Engine note is interesting. Seats are very firm and not as well bolstered as they could be. One thing that struck me was just how ridiculously huge the thing was. It certainly seemed bigger than an E39 both inside and out. It's really tall, too.

Quite an interesting proposition if remapped I think.

I have the estate (as above) and I can testify it is very big, It is bigger (slightly) than the old style volvo brick estates! Makes inner city driving a touch painful, but on the moterway or on the way to the tip it's awesome ;)

I unmap it when I take it to the dealers, so they don't wipe the map with a software update. Process takes about 2mins. Insurance costs me about £50 more a year (£300 instead of £250).

Do you have a bluefin map? Are these easy to switch on / off at will?

You don't need to revert the map when you take it for a service etc, they shoudn't touch that :P

But yea, I've had a mk2 focus ST with mountune kit for ages now. No problems at all with it and it pulls very hard even in 6th. Though I wouldn't go higher than 260hp without other modifications to the strengthen engine (preferably swapping out stuff with RS parts). I'd also recommend upgrading the suspension, because with the increased power the car tends to lerch backwards quite a bit more using the stock stuff under hard acceleration :D

Not understanding the hate here, a lot of car for the money.

I was trying to find this 2.5 Tit-X Sport version in estate when looking at cars and could not find one for the life of me :( Not many about unfortunately. It's a lot of bang for buck, well made car, quick enough and comfortable with plenty of goodies such as the heated seats, windscreen, xenons, CC etc.

It's not a lot of power as people say but a remap makes it more useful. Overall for this car at that price, it's a very good buy IF you are looking for this specific sort of thing! Comparing it to an Audi A1 or a Focus ST is just some of the dumbest nonsense I have read on here.... The guy knew someone was looking for one, so linked to it. The guy is looking for this sort of car for a reason....

I have the 2.5t Estate, mapped to 260ish bhp and it's great fun for a sensible reasonably priced family size car. Driving it is always a pleasure, the economy is pretty poor, but then I cannot resist using all of the accelerator. It has tons of torque over a very wide range.

With the remap it's performance is around the same as the Focus ST (stock), maybe a tiny bit quicker.

Edit: Also I can't see any point trying to put more power in the engine than 260, it's already always wanting to wheel spin in second gear. For more power youd need rear wheel drive.

Nonsene man :P You know you wouldn't say no to more power ;) Still, ST performance in a big comfy car like this is perfect, again, if that's the sort of thing you are after. What is your MPG like around town and then on long cruises in this? <25 in town and about 40 on long drives?

My 9-3 is running around 305bhp and it's pretty thirsty, but no way would I want "only" the 260bhp hehe :P

Be about 18 in town and 28-30 on long runs.

Hmm, that's pretty poor. I get 21-23 back and forth to work which is town driving and then on longer runs sitting 50-70 etc I am getting about 34-37 and have seen 40mpg sitting at 70mph with cruise control for a prolonged spell  Still, we done the reasearch and knew the fuel economy of these cars so if can afford it and knew the consequences then no point feeling bad about the fuel consumption.

Yes, takes 2minutes. If (unlikely as the car is old) ford do a software update then you will loose it and have to go through the hassle of getting bluefin to reset it. Thus I just remove mine for service just in case, then reapply when it's home.

Around town maybe 22, driving fast on the motorway 32. Before the remap I could get maybe 34 on the motorway (still driving fast). I don't use it for work so it's not like the mpg matters too much to me, so I tend to be very heavy footed ;)

My old 2.5T :):

People banging on about 0-60 times don't really get the point of a comfortable, largish engined barge! I drove a cooking spec hire version of one of these. It was diesel, and I suspect the lowest power diesel at that. Was a very pleasant place to be, and while it could have done with the extra poke, It's not a car to go racing round in, but can still be quite rewarding on a good back road.

Helios, lovely looking motor.

I was days away from grabbing a 58 plate Colarado red 2.5T TXS. Stunning looking car. Unfortunately sold by time I got the money together and the next one I found that I liked was £2k more.

How much was the 58 plate selling for?

The 2.5T TXS offering stonking value for money! The engine is superb, and really suits the car for effortless coasting and easy overtaking.

Thanks :). Unfortunately I crashed it a year ago and I miss it everyday :(.

I remember that red one. It was fairly well priced if I remember correctly, ~£7500. I've yet to see another nice TXS go up for sale. Ironically, there was one going for £8500 just after I bought mine for £9K July last year.

Any common issues with the 2.5t lump? Any notable service bills such as cam belt?
How reliable is the turbo looking?

There is a reasonable looking Estate on Autotrader which has been up for sale for ages. May go take a look.

The lump itself is very reliable, I've had nothing go wrong with mine *touches wood. I'm not sure what differences there are with the externals in the Mondeo to the Focus ST. But pre 2008 ST's has issues with the oil diaphragm, and the turbo housing was slightly weaker.

I think the belt needs changing at about 80-100k IIRC.

Thanks. What's the best remap option? Bluefin, JW Racing, Mountune?

My little research shows 260bhp is a good place to be on the standard car.
