Are Apple going backwards?

Check your Applications folder - iWorks '09 is still there. Apple realise that the new apps aren't at feature parity yet but I'm certain that they will be within a year.

IP5 bulky?

Then you have another thread of people complaining it's not big enough as a phone.

iOS7 is like kids toy?

You have another thread of people complaining the old icons looks like kids toy and new one is more sleeker.

You can't win.

in terms of UI u can win if apple let u tweak the icons and download new ones without JB!

In terms of iPhones and build quality, nothing comes close to the 3GS I had. I owned one of those for three years before giving it to my sister, not a scratch on it - perfection. Even now after being stuffed in her handbag and chucked around by her baby it's still in pretty good nicker. Had my 5 for just over a year using the same protection solution and there are scratches on the corners and around the Lightning socket, definitely a step back. IOS7 is a step forward, though still something of a WIP.

I've never heard anyone hold up the iPhone 3G/3GS as the peak of build quality before. For most people the 4/4S was the best and the plastic-backed 3G/3GS was a distant last.

If you look at the functionality of the iWork programs (Pages09, Numbers09 and Keynote09) and compare it to the latest version (released last month) it goes without question that they are going backwards... Dumbing down and removing key features which made those programs better than Office (IMO).

Aren't they rewriting it from the ground up? Which is why it's so dumbed down at the moment. Same kind of thing happened with Final Cut I believe.

@Guest2 I don't think you are finding the iPhone 5 as outright bulky, I think it's the blunt and sharp corners which makes it more uncomfortable to hold compared to the iPod Touches rounder back, of course I'm not denying the iPod isn't thinner than the iPhone as it is but I think its the perception on the iPhone 5/5s.

Regarding 3GS build quality, the amount of people complaining about cracked back panels by the charging port I've seen is quite high, wouldn't say it is the best built but every model iPhone has it's weak points

3G/3GS - Plastic back cracking by charging port
4/4S - Rear glass prone to shattering if dropped
5 - Black coating chips off very easily.

Don't care, it's Apple.

They would have to release something revolutionary to get me using their heavily restricted devices.

Never bought at Apple product, never given them a penny.

Why venture into the Apple sub-forum then? More so, why bother to post?

You don't even try to discuss the thread title / OP's question

I didn't, it was the most popular thread so just appeared on the main forums page.

In contrast new Android OS versions are usually more efficient and run better on older devices.

Don't get the point of iPods, why carry around another device when your phone plays music, video and games just fine, always seemed like a redundant device.

Maybe for children I guess..

What an odd statement. Can you name me an Android device from 2010 that's still getting official updates? Has Google released a KitKat update for the Nexus One for example?

If Apple polished a turd and a stuck an Apple symbol on it you would think it was the best thing since sliced bread.

You do realise the iPod preceded the iPhone, yes?

And you may now be asking why they keep selling it (now that they have the iPhone). Well if they didn't sell they wouldn't produce it. Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean other people don't either. Furthermore they are the best music players for some people but maybe not the best phone... The iPod allows them to have the best of both by investing in a different phone.

The 'shiny button look' of Web 2.0 has been a dated look for many years now, imo. Not a fan of how Windows 8 does the new smooth gradient/blocky colour style, but I feel in iOS7 it was done well.

Android is a fantastic OS if you're a clown attending clown college and have an addiction to seeing '...' instead of the full name of your app, or really like clock widgets.

Maybe its Becuase I'm on old hardware iphone4 and ipad2, but found every update has made things crash more and more. And ios7 has just been a nightmare for this, its taken a massive hit in reliability. Safari and mail app just crash do often now.

I also don't like the stagnation and lack of innovation, but then I'm not their target audience, so they don't care what i think. Imo both android and windows have surpassed ios.
