From my point of view a top manager is a top manager. There is no rule that says a top manager who achieves success from day one will drop off but if you stick with an average manager for years you will suddenly have a world beater who can do no wrong.
I know that we should give Moyes a chance but I see absolutely no advantage to keeping him if there is an opportunity to replace him with a proven world class manager. Football is not the same game it was 20 years ago. Drop off for a few seasons and you will find 4-5 teams are better than you, not perhaps just your closest rival.
We haven't exactly been attracting / buying the worlds best talent for the past few years (whether being unwilling to pay enough etc) whilst we have been winning the league most years so I can't see that we will find the task of recovery an easy one if we are not in that position. Moyes is unlikely to be a big attraction and if we are not competing for silverware then we may struggle. Rooney won't put up with it for much longer either if Chelsea keep knocking on the door which no doubt they will.
