Do you think the Queen will ever write her memoirs?

What powers, or what say does the queen actually have these days?

On paper, anything not forbidden by the constitutional documents. In practice, none of it is used. In essence, she's a diplomat with status and influence. She's also a backstop in case of extreme political turmoil because she could provide continuity and a legitimate rallying point - a last ditch insurance policy. If, for example, extremists became the government and rigged or suspended elections then the queen could dismiss them (using the military if necessary since she's formally the supreme commander of the armed forces) and restore democracy. Sure, we could have a revolt anyway but it helps to have a ready-prepared leader who could do it legitimately. Makes things easier, smoother and less harmful.

So sorry its a DM paper link but i doubt many others would give a hoot. :p

Im sure some cross referenced diary info would be interesting: First opinions on Prime ministers, The Falklands, etc etc...

And finally on BS news:

Before the Queen died, she had been working tirelessly to complete her memoirs, and as per her wishes it has been released today exactly one week after her death. Liz fans may be shocked to hear the £15.99 hardback is not what many would have thought, and infact only a total of five words are printed throughout the whole 384 page book. Flipping through all the blank pages, on page 157 is the only text, it simply reads "Diana had to go. Bitch."

Are you really that ignorant or are you just lying for political reasons?

The UK makes a big profit from the queen. She supports us, not the other way around.

That's clearly not true the tourism argument has been beaten time and time again, **** the queen and her family bunch of parasites

But isn't the latter half of that just her writing about Groundsman Willie? :D

I would love to read, in her own words, how much of a disapointment all her children are and how she has kept the will to live after dealing with complete **** politicians all her life.

Well her two grandchildren have served in the military, one rescuing a fair amount of people, how many lives have you saved? Everyone of them has contributed more to this country than you have, I'm fairly certain of this ;)

I'm not a Royal fan either, but to suggest they have no benefit to this country is idiotic.

bunch of parasites

Parasite - (noun) An organism that benefits by deriving or depriving nutrients at another organism or host's expense.

MrMoonX - (noun) An organism that benefits by depriving honest people of PS4's and derives money at the expense of desperate or ill prepared people.

What's the story behind this?

Did he buy a load of them and sell them on?

I find this kind of response odd (though I realise you're a frog and so hate our royal family :p) coming from you of all people in GD.

Whether or not you like the person or what she represents, she must have led an incredibly interesting life, met some of history's most important, famous, notorious and interesting people, and lived through some of the most defining periods of time of our history. How could that not be worth reading (assuming decent penmanship!)?

Well, that's an interesting perspective you have. Frankly, I wouldn't care or have any interest in the queens memoirs.

I dunno... People interested in the experiences of the longest serving statesperson alive today. Someone who was integral to many of the biggest events in history of the modern UK , from coronation to dissolution of the empire and many more.

Even a staunch republican must be able to see there is a massive historical benefit in that even if you don't support the monarchy...

Everyone supports the monarchy...biggest benefit fraud scam in the whole world I am suprised the public still put up with it, especially with scenarios like our soon to be queen sunbathing topless and having the audacity to try and jail the papperazi who happened to see her do it! And not letting the actual royal family go to her kid's christening, instead inviting only "her mates".

Military worship is getting old  they have done nothing there either except getting rank they didn't earn!

You know nothing about me, when in actual fact I work with the most vulnerable people in society, the royals only serve themselves ensuring the birth rite idiocy continues

I'm sure all those people that Prince William and his team saved in their rescue helicopter think he is doing a bit more than nothing.

Infact there was a woman I saw on TV a few months back who managed to meet him at some event he was attending just to say thanks for saving her life, as she never got a chance when it happened.

While its certainly true that many political figures and sovereigns across the world get top ranks with no experience, you have to commend the fact that Harry is incredibly serious about it and wants to serve all he can.

Not really memoirs per se but when I used to work for the press we had senior dignitaries' obituaries and supplements already written. They would be updated as time went on ready to press 'print' the moment they popped their clogs.
