*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Just a word of warning for anyone thinking of getting the Official Google yellow/red bumper case. If you wear dark trousers for work everyday, the edges of the cover have started to go black ... my bright yellow one is now starting look a bit green lol

Should have gone for the black one!

Case wise? Whats the best to go for.. I have a slim 1.3mm case on my 4s at the moment and love it i don't like bulk.. Any recommended slim hardly there but will stop me damaging (scratch wise) the phone. Impacts i aint worried about massively just scratches i hate

I put my n4 in a Nillkin flip case the week I got it off google at release and mine is in mint condition after about a year with no screen protector, it adds 2/3mm to the depth when closed.

my 16Gb Black Nexus 5 has been delivered, not bad from google i must say

Ordered: 7th December (Sat)
Despatched: 8th December (Sun)
Delivered: 9th December (Mon)

at time of ordering it said to be despatched after 11th December (for reference!)

My 32GB Black Nexus 5 was ordered on Saturday from the Play Store and arrived today!

It stated on the website that it would leave the warehouse on the 11th, and in fact still says that. I havent even had a dispatch notice yet and the credit card hasn't been fully charged yet I already have it in my hand!

It's happened to many. Rest assured you'll be charged.

It has probably been mentioned already, but the Nexus 5 phones which the Play Store have been sending out over the last 10 days or so have already had Kit-Kat 4.4 firmware 'factory installed' so it doesn't have to do a major system update the very first time you turn it on.... that is until they officially release 4.4.1 as an OTA update!

That's correct. Mine had 4.4 on it when turned on today.

I Forget my last nexus 5 had to do an instant update when I turned it on :)

Right, sorry for the question but I'm not all that clued up when it comes to android stuff. I've rooted my phone, but don't have a custom recovery installed. How do I go about installing the 4.4.1 update without having to wipe my phone? Is it just a case of waiting for the OTA update and just updating using that, then using the computer to re-apply the root? Or is there something else I need to do instead?

nah, i managed to undervolt the nexus 4 by 100mv and it worked fine, think I settled on -125mv in the end on the nexus 4 because -150mv caused reboots and crashes, there's posts in the nexus 4 thread anyway about it all.

-50mv is imo perfectly do-able for every nexus 5 absolutely no issues.

if you are going to push further, i suggest that you do not set the voltages to be set at boot, yet require manually setting each time you start the device up.

that way if it does start to reboot or crash after it boots back up it will be back to stock voltages, rather than constantly bricked until you flash stock rom or something or flash another kernel.

i will try -75mv next week.

-100mv the week after.

repeat until i get crashes and reboots. when that happens go back up two notches (not one because you can never really stress test a phone for any situation) to be on the safe side.

i reckon this should do -100mv fine but i have enough time to test it for a week at a time until i'm happy.

on another note snapchat is buggy as hell, the developers need to re-write it from scratch i reckon.

using purity rom with franco r19 and paid app (from nexus 4 days :) )

totally forgot how to use it though but do i just undervolt and thats it? no messing with cpu frequencies? or anything else?

thanks

My Cerberus is not working with 4.4.1 either. Take pictures when wrong unlock pattern is entered but It will not connect via Dashboard. Connect Message sent, but returns 'Problems connecting to the device'

i use this toolkit: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/

works well and very easy to use

u can use it to sideload updates to the phone too

That's what I used to unlock and root it in the first place. My question is more about which ways I can update without worrying about all my data and apps being wiped and having to go through the huge faff of restoring from the backups.

im no expert but i believe if you lose root you can easily get it back again without losing any data

its only when unlocking/locking bootloader it wipes everything

this may also help mate: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523217

although im sure someone that knows 100% will answer soon!

yes reroot! can and sometimes needs to be done again without losing any settings, its the bootloader locking and unlocking that causes a reset
