** LATEST GIGABYTE LAPTOPS NOW AVAILABLE FROM OcUK INCLUDING P35K / P34G!! **

So this does again lean towards packaging being v2.0 yet the actual laptop being physically the same?
I think we really could do with Gigabyte putting something out there, which totally clears this matter up - I would imagine there are plenty of people quite worried about the resilience of these (P35K) machines who really want one, but are reluctant to pull the trigger and order one. I am in this camp :(

In my earlier posts I said GB and GenTech both stated that the laptops are physically no different.

I asked OCUK to confirm or deny this (several times) - yet to have an answer.

Hello, firstly thank you Bailey for being so helpful, I have requested a replacement, and hopefully everything will be ok with the new one as i firmly believe this laptop has the best balance between performance and mobility in the market right now.
Honestly after doing a huge research on different forums i think some products left the manufacturing process with the issue, because the laptop does not feel that weak obviously in not a unibody macbook, but it is not that bad.

It certainly sounds like the packaging was the only thing that was upgraded, otherwise they would have to re-manufacture a hell of a lot of units, and surely that would take longer than it took them to start shipping new "revisions" once the problem was spotted?

Agree with this statement. I've received my rev2.0 and it is still working perfectly. No bending issues I can assure of :D

Hello again, finally I sent back the laptop on thursday, but today in My account\RMA history still says "currently waiting to receive this item" I checked with DPD and laptop was delivered friday at 10:30
Does anyone who has returned the P35k knows how long did it take since the laptop was sent till you get the new replacement?
Many thanks

Right, just joined the P35K club - ordered the Extreme version @ £1439.99 as today's offer price made it too hard to resist :p

If it is only the packaging that's been changed, it's kind of disingenuous to advertise the laptop as v2.0... you generally only do that in case of hardware revisions surely?

Agreed - I think that the whole v2.0 thing is a bit of a stretch too! Seems to me, from every source I have seen, that the packaging has been improved but no hardware changes have been made whatsoever :(

After all, what could Gigabyte have actually done in the matter of a few weeks - not like they are likely to have been able to amend the manufacturing process significantly, if at all

Still, if my one is in any way not perfect, it is going right back to OcUK. Here's hoping it is all good - there is absolutely no acceptability in a £1500 laptop being shoddily designed/put together

Looking back over this thread it seems to have been quite a bumpy release!

I'm not sure what to think at the moment - was looking at the w230st a couple of months ago but wasn't in urgent need of a portable machine so thought I'd wait and see what these gigabytes turned out to be like. Regarding the p35k - personally would have preferred no optical drive and an extended battery or cooling system in its place - might have allowed for that weak area to be strengthened.

Still, looks like a great machine, but I'm in half a mind - I know it says IPS, but is the screen in the p35k really worth it compared to similar laptops? How does it compare to the screen in the p34g or the w230st? Then there's the noise under load and throttling I keep reading about - just how loud (and hot) exactly is the p35k when gaming? Any owners able to share their experience?

I dunno, p34g, p35k and the 13" clevo all look good, at a good price point (<£1200) and performance more than what I'm looking for, but all with little niggles that make a buyer think twice about any of them. MSI models are out of the question - not a fan of their styling.

Also considering holding out for the U24F - update of the u2442f? Seems like it will only have a 750m, but still enough for me.

Well, I received my CF4 version on Friday and am delighted so far. I too had some pretty serious reservations about the fabled kink/flex in the chassis, but decided I could not resist the offer last Thursday on the Extreme version :D

Thoughts so far, and it really is early days:

Screen is really good - excellent viewing angles, bright colours and nicely vivid to my eyes. I really cannot fault the screen, and find it perfect. I do like IPS screens, in general - TV is, phone is and so on.....

Fans do spin up more than previous laptop(s), but I have not found it annoying or a problem so far. Have yet to try any gaming, so not sure what they are like under serious load, but I certainly don't find them intrusive. This is not a silent/nearly silent machine - it is an incredibly slim desktop replacement, in many ways. As for heat, again I have not found this bad - no gaming yet, but the fans doing there thing seems to mean that the heat is being output - there is a fan profile program from Gigabyte installed, but I have yet to play with this.

All in all, the P35K is a very impressive machine - admittedly, my CF4 has 2x128GB mSATA SSDs in RAID, 16GB RAM and a BluRay writer, as opposed to the cheaper CF2 model, but otherwise the specification/chassis etc. are the same. Not cheap, but reassuringly expensive ;)

Excellent, screen sounds great - I'm currently using a dell 2209wa so I expect slightly lower quality from a laptop panel, but will be nice to use the built in screen exclusively and not rely on having to use an external monitor in the house.

Would be interested in heat/noise under heavy load if you have any time for that - not expecting a silent laptop (would be using as desktop replacement), but in something that thin I'm a bit worried about dangerous levels of heat and unbearable noise.

Oh finally how's the keyboard - reasonably firm, even, what's the key spacing feel like to type on?

Cheers. :)

I really like the screen, and would say it is comparable to some Dell Ultrasharp monitors that I have had over the years.....nothing empirical, mind, but early impressions. Can't really understate the value of a sharp IPS screen in a laptop, after years of muggy TN panels.

Heat/noise observations will not be imminent - PS4 is taking the lion's share of my free time for now, and Steam is busy downloading the games I have available whenever I have the laptop fired up. Most activity so far has been transferring GBs of media files onto it from the Desktop PC
As I have said before, you know that the machine is running, and the base does get warm, but I find it perfectly acceptable - admittedly, this is not running at full pelt.....

As for the keyboard, I am pleasnalty surprised. I did not have particularly high expectations, given the slim nature of the chassis, but actually like it a lot. Key presses are notably better than any previous laptop I have had, although spacing is perhaps not quite as good as some - still, that could be down to the nuances of layout, which differ slightly from my last laptop. That said, it is pretty decent overall. The touchpad is responsive enough for gestures and general movement, although the clicking action is perhaps not as robust as I would ideally like - still, certainly is usable :p

^Thanks, and good to read that about the keyboard - I'm not overly fussy about it as long as there's no glaring problem like excessive flex or horrible trackpad, which it sounds like there isn't. :)

Also interested in more feedback from anyone who's bought a P34G here - how's the screen on that?

Shame none of them come with a 256GB SSD stock, and seems liek replacing a hard drive voids warranty - is there likely to be a 256GB ssd only P34G and/or P35K in the near future? Would rather have one medium sized ssd and no hdd at all as I don't need huge amounts of space. Am bringing myself up to date by going through both threads on NBR.

Edit: From a convenience point of view I'm leaning towards the P34G at the moment - seems like both run hot, but a gtx760m is more than enough and I do like the chassis for that model, and the u2442 series. Also would rather not have a built in optical drive, and if the 14" display is comparable to that on the p35k then it seems better to lose the excess bulk and go for the smaller machine. I just don't feel like the p35k is the sort of laptop you can carry around on a regular basis.

Edit2: Seems like there's a version of the P34G with a 256GB msata ssd and 16GB ram - I'm assuming we aren't likely to see that before the new year, but I would consider waiting for that.

Ive had a P35K for about a week, and after adjusting the clicking action of the touchpad (there a little screw underneath) I found it much better.

However, a little accident involving my son and a drink meant that the keyboard is now goosed. The laptop itself is fine if used with a USB keyboard but the keyboard itself is screwed so Im waiting on a call back from Gigabytes UK service center to see if they can send / sell me another!

Doh!

Interesting......how did you come to discover this? Which screw? I haven't found mine to be all that poor, but....

Oh! Well that is not good :( Mine is currently my pride and joy, and would be devastated to lose any use of a £1.5k machine......Let us know how Gigabyte's CS is?

Hi guys,

I've just ordered the p35k cf4! Very excited! Just hoping i receive a non flex machine.

Has anyone had any luck with sorting out the wifi issues? With the 8.1 drivers?

Well luckily, I gave it one more blast under the tap and 2 days solid drying and its all fine now!

However, the CS was pretty poor, they said a new keyboard would be circa £100-150 ish and would email me a quote, which never arrived, thankfully I didnt need it anyway!

They also wouldnt ship the keyboard directly, I would have to send the laptop to them for them to replace.
