*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Just a quick heads up for those rooted with custom recovery on 4.3. DO NOT APPLY THE OTA UPDATE WITHOUT FIRST FLASHING STOCK RECOVERY. If you do it may send it into a non-booting state where you get the KitKat loading screen and nothing else.

I ended up using a Nandroid backup to restore 4.3, then flashing stock recovery and then applying the OTA update which worked just fine.

Mine died last night. Battery said it was on 14% then all of a sudden went off. I quickly plugged charger in to be greeted with a slight flickering on the screen. Unplugged for a bit, tried charging it all day and no worky! Any ideas? It should still be in warranty so I'll just send it back otherwise.

Best to go with Argos warranty (1yr) or Asus (1yr) I think?

Hey,

I did a factory reset and flashed the factory image for 4.4 - all nice and smooth, but now Bluetooth audio is messed up.

Lot of skipping and audio distortion, and the volume adjust is weirdly not linear any more?! Like I press up a few notches, and it will go up, up, down, down, down, up, or something.

Totally weird! Anyone else having similar problems?

Cheers,

Su

[edit] Just remembered that my RAZR HD on 4.1.2 does the exact same thing with the volume, and I was never able to find a solution

[edit2] I've had the KRT16S update pushed to my device - no change.

Updated mine last week, audio over BT is fine.

got a 32gb N7 on tuesday, can anyone recommend a case? I guess it's probably already been discussed in thread, but it's a big thread! I'm after one of the folding stand-up type thingys, the ipad-esque smart cover types. wicked little tablet like. Missus got me it for £112, a refurb mind, but not a single scratch/dead pixel its pristine.

Hi all

I am going to purchase an Asus Google Nexus 7 16 GB Second gen tomorrow new, it states on there OS as being Android OS, v4.3 (Jelly Bean) although I am hearing a lot of talk about kit kat?

Whats the score here, is jellybean older kitkat newer and I can update when I receive it

I am a complete noob when it comes to android OS versions

It'll probly come with Jellybean, and then update to KitKat when you turn it on all on its own!

Jellybean is v4.3

KitKat is 4.4

:)

They're in alphabetical order, so Kitkat comes after Jellybean (which itself came after IceCream Sandwich).

The Nexus 7 will automatically update to Kitkat.

:(

Last night I dropped my Nexus 7.

The screen is cracked, originating from the bottom, meaning although the tablet and most of the screen works fine. The area around and including the home/back buttons no longer works.

Has anyone successfully changed the screen? Looks like is going to cost around £55 if I do it myself.

I could upgrade of course, but a 2nd gen 32gb model is around £240.
I can`t really justify the upgrade if a repair is do-able.

Just had the 4.4.2 update as well. After it installed there was a Nova launcher update which has added the transparent system bars :)
