Back to its old tricks!

Superhub reboot time... *yawn*

It's that time of the month again?

I'm going to complain to VM now and request the SH2 because this is not on having to reboot it every 2~ weeks

Just had my update to 120Mb

Speed%20Test1.jpg

Very happy Steam currently downloading at 15Mb/sec

wonder what causes that - mine did similar for about 4 weeks in a row each time after 4 days or so of stability, then sea of blue, reboot and all aok

but last 4 weeks been perfect

Careful how you "request" it. If you plainly make it seem as if you just want a free SH2 they will try every excuse possible to not give you one. Like how the silly cow told me I wouldn't benefit from the SH2 because I had a Wireless G NIC when she was clearly reading the letter "N". Still dumbfounds me thinking about it.

No idea what causes it but I do know it's definitely the latest firmware because before the update there were no problems at all!

I've made a post on their forum and posted the screenshots from above of the TBB graph which they can't really say no to as far as I can see :/

i'm getting very angry now with VM. called VM this morning due to the speed still dropping. now they are saying it's the SH2 and levels at fault, so they sending yet another engineer out tomorrow. but I know 100% it's nothing to do with the SH2 and levels, I've already had a second SH2 and also every engineer that as came out has said the levels are perfect and the issue isn't anything to do with in the house...

heres the levels

to me the levels are perfect. also if it was the SH2 and levels, surely the speed issue would be 24/7. but my speed issue is only at peak times / weekends....

I really wish VM would stop lying.

I just want VM guys to sort this. even the last engineer said it sounds like a high utilisation issue still.

8 Downstream channels? Is this special to the SH2?

My 120Mb connection only utilises 6 out of the 8 channels on my SH1.

But yeah power levels don't seem too bad, here's mine:
-2.4 dBmV
-1.1 dBmV
-1.3 dBmV
-1.9 dBmV
-1.3 dBmV
-1.8 dBmV

I have a 10dB attenuator, thing is if I take it off levels will shoot through the roof, need to replace it with a 6dB attenuator and my levels will be sweet :)

Weird it's always been around those figures down here as far as I can remember. What should it be at or around?

Edit*
Hmm so maybe I need an attenuator to control the power levels? Although I don't think this is related to the lag spiking every 2 weeks since the levels have remained unchanged throughout.

Can anyone tell me what speed increase vm are emailing me about?

I have 20mb bb only which they recently hiked up to £24 per mth which was annoying, now they're on about increasing speed but the email just goes on about all the wonderful things I can do with more speed rather than actually telling me what speed I'm increasing to. I'm in Bristol, does anyone know?

Another thing I'd like to know is when I signed up to a speed increase earlier this year and was given a superhub (which I run on modem only as the wireless signal is rubbish) did they start me in a new contract?

If you log into the online account area it will tell you what speed you will be getting.

I thought 30Mb was the slowest speed anyway?

I seem to have to reboot my SH2 every 2-3 weeks too so it may not make that much difference :(. Had to reboot it today as sites were timing out on my 120mb connection, everything went back to normal after the reboot.

That's a bummer to hear^ :/

Sow hat have they done to the latest firmwares that has caused this to happen. In the end I run modem only mode anyway so whether it's an SH2 or 1 I don't really care as long as the issue is resolved. By the looks of it I don't hold hope of a speedy fix though.

Something's definitely not right. Since getting 120Mb I've constantly gotten 126Mb in speed tests. For the past two days I've been getting only 120Mb at most.

Even now at one in the morning I'm getting only 116 :/

I guess this is what happens when your aim is to constantly run your network on the brink of failure. Have a feeling things will slowly get worse. :(

no, it depends on your area, VM will upgrade your area to 8 channels in time. getting a sh2 will still give you 6 channels
Oh I see, cheers :)

different areas have different power level ranges. example my area is between -5.0 to +4.0 for the downstream,, closer to 0 the better. upstream is between 35 to 52, closer to 45~ the better.

Since going to QAM256/Docsis 3 and multiple aggregated streams, it seems the power levels recommendations have gone up. I know that last summer mine went from around the 1-3 mark to around 12-14.
