Buying an old Mondeo (~2003)

You wont feel anything but you will hear a drone. Will be next to impossible to determine which wheel it's coming from but it's also relatively cheap and easy to sort. Bearings are something I'd use genuine parts or at the very least a decent brand

The rear hubs are a complete sealed unit so you can't just replace the bearings. Genuine Ford are about £250. I replaced mine the first time with a pattern part from Ford that cost about £80. It lasted about 12 months, cheap £30 ones off Ebay lasted about the same.

I have a ST200 2.5 V6 bought it 3 years ago, 2000 model pre face lift.

132,000 on the clock, still going strong. I have replaced disks/pads as usual and I got the front brake pipes re-done as they never had been. Apart from that its been very nice to drive and reliable.

not looked after like it should be now having a little one but even though its been hammered around a little as well as not having a service exactly on time its been great to drive.

A common issue is the rear subframe bushes - if the car's got a decent amount of miles on, its best to check that these have been done - I managed to find one that had had them done, however the cost was around £350-400 with labour, so worth an ask.

I knew they were a complete hub but I don't see why it would be a £250 part? I'm also confused as of to how a pattern part can come from ford? I would still expect you'd find a good quality part (either from ford or the likes of LUK) to well outlast any ebay rubbish, but stranger things have happened.

I went and asked at the Ford garage and was shocked at the price. They said that was the usual reaction and had a pattern part option that was much cheaper.
