Had my first road rage encounter today

Sounds to me like you misjudged the amount of space you had, or the speed the guy was approaching at.

Although there are some weirdos out there, most people don't get that irate for no reason. I far too often find that when somebody cuts me up, they're completely oblivious to having done so.

I 'pulled out' on someone the other day. Well, I didn't really pull out on him as there was plenty of room for me to have sped up and kept a good gap between us. He took exception to my manoeuvre and started flailing his arms about to show his displeasure.

At first I thought perhaps he was a bit of a twerp but then pondered whether maybe it was a game, so wobbled my arms about too. I think that perhaps it was just a bit of fun.

You probably cut him up. But whatever, move on. Nothing happened so be glad :)

Dunno like, there are plenty of people in these parts who don't enjoy being overtaken, and will make the effort to return the favour, no matter how idiotic the returning move is.

Had someone slam their brakes infront of me once ( don't normally get into road rage).

There was a bus indicating to pull out of a stop, some distance away, I braked, flashed the bus to go, Van behind me starting beeping with middle finger, Ignored him, He then decided to over take me in a built up area, slam on his brakes and continued on, I just waved my hand out the window and laughed.

Just got to get on with it, bunch of morons on the road.

See a lot of people using the indicators this way. As in 'I'm changing lane NOW, and you should move' instead of 'I intend to go this way, but only will if its safe to do so'.

It does my nut in.

This drives me bonkers, especially on motorways. "I'm indicating so I'm changing lane, I don't give a toss if there's space or not, you can brake to let me in".

I'm a fan of the assertive indicate/change lane NOW manoeuvre. :p

Some people instinctively speed up when they see you're indicating to change into 'their' lane. I'd rather take the spot before that happens.

Edit/ Only when it's safe to do so of course.

Had someone flip out at me because I was doing 54 mph GPS on an average 50 zone. He sped up trying to indicate a 5 which I assume meant 50. I started laughing, he got even more aggressive, I laughed harder, he tried to hit me so I proceeded to GTFO with tears streaming down my eyes.

Driver turned off into B&Q, and I went home.

Why does this remind me of the endings of stories I used back when I was 10? You know the ones, you start of writing an epic story about a space battle in immense detail and then get bored after 30 minutes so figure you better end it. "Then the space fleets decided they were tired so they went home". That sort of thing.

pulled him out of his car and stamped on his face until he died.

I've had something similar, he was massive, like a typical powerfully built PH director, but in a Corsa B. My 144hp BMW safley got my out of dodge once the national sign popped up.

Since I got my Impreza I've come to discover a lot of people don't like being overtaken. The worst in my experience have been van drivers and old people. They seem to hate my car for some reason?!

It's not about being overtaken. More jealousy that someone has a faster car.

And I say that as a slow car owner! :o

Probably the fact your exhaust scared the living bejesus out of them when you all of a sudden went

Bwahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr

Passed them ?

the best thing to do in these situations is give them a polite wave and laugh it off.

Unfortunately when people see you laughing at them they have a weird habit of getting into much more of a mood... odd that??

What your supposed to do if someone is tailgating your and/or obviously flustered / has their hands off the wheels is to slow down so you have more time to react smoothly if something happens in front of you. Again this has a habit of annoying them even more :D
