If humans didn't ever sleep.....

Even power naps are hugely useful for a burst of energy when you wake up. It's good to have short power naps in fact in addition to regular sleep. Not too long though, the best effect is waking up before you enter deep sleep.

I'm not sure if the OP was saying 'what if humans didn't have the requirement for sleep' - IE could function perfectly well with no sleep at all. Thats how I took it anyway

if its this then the gov would find a way for us to all work 18 hour days instead. it might be interesting though.

as said above, sleep is vital for the brain and our good health. i remember back in my party days the most i went without sleep was 4 days and my brain started to melt. i was seeing all kinds of things and reality started slipping away like a decent tab of acid.

If people didn't sleep? They would never come up to you and explain all the details of the really amazing dream they had last night.

Come to think of it perhaps we'd spend half our waking hours daydreaming.

Russian sleep experiment (can't verify how real that is).

if true that is messed up! (very much doubt it though but the nazis, russians and japanese have all done worse.

Sleep deprivation is BAD, very, very bad.

But if humans didn't need to sleep at all things could be a lot more interesting. I mean, if the physiology of humans was as such that sleep wasn't needed then what about other animals? The entire eco system could be different.

Plus you would never have to hear the excuse from you gf "I'm tired I just want to go to sleep early tonight." :D

I regularly used to stay up for 3 + days when I used to game. After this period of time I remember hallucinating, and feeling really weird and spaced out, I remember my legs used to start feeling weird and I'd break out in sweats.

Since we don't sleep 12 hours and stay awake 12 hours, we wouldn't be "twice" anything. We'd only gain 4-8 hours per day to do all this extra stuff so we'd only be 1 and 1/6 or 1 1/3 more productive if anything.

(Assuming we spent an equal proportion of that time working/not working)

...in theory.
