If 4k really is the not so distant future then GPU's need a big performance increase to cope with modern demanding games at decent fps especially if anyone is thinking of 4k surround.
A forum user of the Chinese tech forum Chiphell posted his unboxing of the Dell 32" 4K mon UP3214Q, and a frame rate test of Crysis 3 in 4K Surround, triple UP3214Q, with 3 Titans in SLI. He tuned all special effects as "very high", and kept MSAA at 2x. The frame rate were around 25-30fps for most of the time. Although as most of you probably agree AA probably wouldn't be needed at 4k so maybe a few fps more in those results in reality..
I think we will need to see what 20nm brings to the table and hopefully it will be a step in the right direction.
