New PSU required, but want to be future proof

I think my 8 year old PSU has died. It is/was a 600W Enermax Noisetaker.

I'm really wanting a PSU that will also suit my next build, so the following may not be that relevant.

My existing system is a socket 1366 Asus MS, with an i7 930
18 GB triple channel ram
Corsair sealed water cooler
AMD 6970
1 SSD
5 HDDs (mix of 7200 and 5400 rpm)
A few gentle typhoon 120mm fans.
1 DVD writer - and I want to add a Bluray writer

But as above, at some point I'll end up building another PC, and I'd like to keep anything I can, so I don't want to have to re-buy a PSU.

If it was just for my existing system, I assume the SuperFlower 650W would be a good option

But when I went on here: http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power and typed in a hypothetical new spec for a future PC (I confess I didn't really know what I was doing), it came out with a recommended 873W.

Is 873W silly, and 650W plenty if not running SLI (although I will upgrade in the future, I doubt I'll ever run SLI). Or does my excessive us of HDDs, or desire for a future build, mean I need more than 650W?

Many thanks

PS - While modular would be nice, it's not a necessity, and I'd like to spend as little as I can to get something decent.

That Superflower is great value at £60, and it will power any (overclocked) single-card setup with ease.

Well, I don't know what you put into the calculator, but 873w for a single card system seems...excessive - even if that single card was a dual GPU like a 7990. Generally speaking, these recommendations assume you'll be buying a bog-standard, low quality PSU. Superflower don't make low quality PSUs.

What kind of spec do you have in mind?

Yes, well to be fair, I didn't know what I was doing :D
EDIT - actually, filling it in with what I have now puts it around 600w. Filling in all the details, like fans, CPU cooler, all my HDDs, seems to add up. Maybe they over allow for each thing you add, making it inaccurate?

I can't really be specific, as it's hypothetical at this stage, but this is my general situation:
I'm a photographer, and get decent CPUs and a chunk of RAM to help me get through photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. I have a fair few HDDs because of my photo use, backing up, and also using my PC as a music server.
Every now and then I'll get an up to date GPU for some games - as an example, I got the AMD 6970 when they came out - so not at the bleeding edge, but a decent GPU (at the time).

So in conclusion, next time I build I'll have an SSD, a few HDDs, a good CPU and reasonable single GPU too, and 24gb ram. Oh, and a sound card (still got an old M-Audio 2496, which I like), and a DVD writer and Bluray writer (and a bunch of fans, CPU cooler etc, maybe a CPU OC too).

If 650W is enough, I'm sure that SuperFlower is perfect. But however good it is, it will be a bit useless if I need more than 650W.

PS - I think the answer is yes, but I'd better check: I assume that PSU will fit my case fine:
