I think my 8 year old PSU has died. It is/was a 600W Enermax Noisetaker.
I'm really wanting a PSU that will also suit my next build, so the following may not be that relevant.
My existing system is a socket 1366 Asus MS, with an i7 930
18 GB triple channel ram
Corsair sealed water cooler
AMD 6970
1 SSD
5 HDDs (mix of 7200 and 5400 rpm)
A few gentle typhoon 120mm fans.
1 DVD writer - and I want to add a Bluray writer
But as above, at some point I'll end up building another PC, and I'd like to keep anything I can, so I don't want to have to re-buy a PSU.
If it was just for my existing system, I assume the SuperFlower 650W would be a good option

But when I went on here: http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power and typed in a hypothetical new spec for a future PC (I confess I didn't really know what I was doing), it came out with a recommended 873W.
Is 873W silly, and 650W plenty if not running SLI (although I will upgrade in the future, I doubt I'll ever run SLI). Or does my excessive us of HDDs, or desire for a future build, mean I need more than 650W?
Many thanks
PS - While modular would be nice, it's not a necessity, and I'd like to spend as little as I can to get something decent.
