Game like Gran Turismo for the PC?

Don't forget to mute your speakers and turn your vacuum cleaner on in order to mimic the engine sounds too. :D

This! ;)

Something like Assetto Corsa or Race 07 (and its many expansions) would be a good choice as you seem to want something that feels more like a racing sim?

Really like Race 07 myself, and once you get all the expansions there is a good range of tracks and cars to keep you occupied for hours. But, neither of these games are those where you can modify your cars, but race properly setup ones! :p

Grid was brilliant... dah **** you guys on?
Assetto Corsa looks good, but it is a risk given its rather uncomplete status.

believe it or not some like Mario Kart as well :D

anyway only one that tickles my fancy is Assetto Corsa, however I won't consider a purchase until Nordschleife is available

Don't think there are any racing sims on consoles are there? All on PC, so take your pick. Check out a list of PC racing titles and try everything that isn't multiplatform, so C.A.R.S, Assetto, Race, iRacing etc.

One key difference from Shift 2 vs GT5 is the AI scaling. In GT5, if you are struggling with a particular event you can (restrictions permitting) upgrade you car to become more competitive. In Shift 2, upgrading is often counter-productive because the other cars get faster as well so all that happens is you have less margin for error due to it being a faster race. I ended up getting fed up because I'd bought the fastest possible car in the class, then maxed out every single performance upgrade (M6 engine in my M3, you name it) and yet the other cars were STILL pulling away from me despite the fact that should be impossible as the absolute worst case scenario should have been parity given I had the absolute best possible available.

Obviously, depends a bit on what type of racing you want to do (online, perfecting lap times etc) but coming from GT5 I'd imagine career mode is fairly important.

There are absolutely no games like Gran Turismo on PC - this is the one type of game that is missing from PC.

On PC you have much more involved sims, but they do not have the career style that GT has, or the "can play it like an arcade game or like a sim-like game" gameplay/physics that GT has - you either get full sim, or full arcade.

If you want a Gran Turismo style game, you need to play Gran Turismo.
