Which book(s) would you like to be made into Film?

Gemmell, always wanted to see Druss the Legend taking some heads with his double headed axe Snaga.

Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama", Morgan Freeman's been talking about making it for years now.

So much this :) maybe even his Troy trilogy too. :D

+1million

Peter Jackson could do a three-hour epic just on the battle for Dros Delnoch and I would be like…

ORBS by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

Only released earlier this month this alien invasion SciFi could go straight from the page to the screen, would love to see it! :D

Some of these books I would love to see more in a HBO series like band of brothers or GOT. :) Films might not do justice to the books.

Also the horus heresy is a good shout :)

Altered Carbon would be great, not sure how they would do it though. With all the re-sleeving I to different bodys.

ooooo yeah, forgot about this!

would make an awesome grim cyberpunk movie, not so much the follow up books but definitely the first one.

I'd always thought Old Man's War would have made a good film but would be too similar to Avatar

Terry Brooks 'Shannara Series'

Your wish is granted, well TV, and starting with the Elfstones. But still :)

Why Shannara on MTV is a Good Thing
BY TERRY BROOKS – DECEMBER 6, 2013

A Letter from Terry

Dear Readers,
You cannot imagine how difficult it has been waiting for this morning’s announcement about the endeavor to turn the Shannara books into a TV series, starting with Elfstones of Shannara. Really, it has been very hard not to talk about it. I’ve known about the particulars of this effort for some time. I’m very excited about Miles Millar and Al Gough writing and Jon Favreau directing. I am also very excited about MTV’s strong passion for the project and I am very confident they will be a great home for it.

Mostly, I just want you to know how happy I am with the way things have worked out. I couldn’t be more excited to be partnered with Farah Films, Sonar Entertainment, Millar and Gough, Favreau, and now MTV. It’s a team that will get this done and done right. What makes me excited for the future is the extent to which we are all on the same page with regard to how the series should be developed and how much everyone is committed to seeing that it sticks close to the heart and soul of the books. If I didn’t feel this way, I couldn’t write this letter.

So let’s celebrate this finally coming together. It’s been thirty-five years since that effort began. The best still lies ahead, and I am looking forward to getting there.

All good wishes, Terry

Altered Carbon would be great, not sure how they would do it though. With all the re-sleeving I to different bodys.

It's been optioned and is in progress, though who knows how long it will take. Kovacs is only in the one main body (the ex-cop's body), plus a three others for small parts (at the beginning in the offworld prologue, the torture scene in the clinic, and the ninja fighter during the attack on the airship/brothel).

I think the second book might work better as a movie, as it's got a more straightforward action/thriller plot, and Kovacs stays in the same sleeve all the way to the end.

I'd like to see Larry Niven's "Ringworld". With the current state of the art in special effects it would be possible to do the Puppeteer and Kzin characters justice.

maybe one of the sharpe (waterloo would be good) books but full film with full size battle scenes / mega budget? - master and commander style but on land

also stalker film is a good shout - could use roadside picnic as the base story (travelling to the wish granter)

None. Hollywood studios don't give a **** whether or not they turn a good book with the potential for a good film, into a molested pile of crap; just as long as it makes money. That World War Z nonsense is a prime example.

This is the big problem: there are many, many great books out there. Great characters, amazing concepts and ideas, terrific stories, and Hollywood screws them over into a two hour movie that throws all the good stuff away. I'd rather not have my favourite books turned into movies if they become just travesties of the original work.
