** OcUK FIRST AGAIN: GIGABYTE R290 SERIES WINDFORCE CARDS!! **

I'm sorry, this isn't a go at OcUK but £390? Methinks the manufacturers are taking the mick a bit over the demand for aftermarket coolers given that the stock R290 was under £300 at one point?

I was actually considering if I made the right choice in buying early (especially given the BF4 debacle) but now I know it was well worth it. :D

Its not just the board partners, but AMD's cost increased, why I don't know, so a cost increase from AMD, the additional cost for custom cooler....

Wonder where Tom's Hardware got this bit of info then:

Unfortunately, AMD says there is nothing it can do to control the elevated prices on its cards; vendors are the ones jacking up the prices.

Is the vendors here referring to the retail stores or manufacturers like Asus, MSI etc.?

Hmmm my account is missing a load of money, I'm pretty sure I have nothing else coming out at this time. Has part of the payment been taken for this card already?

Confirmed, payment taken of my account as well for my pre-order (not complaining, just saying that it is normal indeed)

hi guys. I've pre-ordered one of the Gigabyte 290OC's. I'm upgrading from a Gigabyte 560ti which has been a great card but cant handle bf4. The rest of my system i'm hoping to leave untouched.. its an i5 2500k (@4.6ghz) on ASUS p8p67pro with 16gb kingston 1600mhz ram., Do you think there will be any bottlenecks upgrading to this GPU? Also i hope these cards are backward compatable to PCI-E 2.0? how much of a performance boost is PCI-E 3.0?

Cheers

PCI 3.0 is downward compatible, no worries. As for performance differences the different articles/topics I've read on the subject shown that it was marginal in a single GPU setup.

Great.. that puts my mind at rest! no need to upgrade mobo for now then. Can't wait to get this beast installed.. lets just hope the windforce can keep temps down to a reasonable level.

Should be a good upgrade for you! We will have identical setups when we get these cards, except I'm only on 8gb, guess you got an over clocked bundle a bit after me or something :p

I'm just getting back into gmaing after being out of it for a while and i'm quite suprised how my 2.5 year old rig still stands up to the newer tech. i bought all the components seperatly (from ocuk :p) when i built it, around the time the p8p67pro was launched. my 2500k has been clocked at 4.6ghz (1.36v) since day 1 and this isnt far off the performance of the newer i5's?

But yeh this GPU should blow my old card out of the water!
