well i've just put an order in for the r9 290 oc for a new build. my laptop is PITA now. hopefully, i'll get one of those 100 cards before xmas. can u confirm where pre-orders are up to? 2 weeks at christmas gaming and litecoin mining. should be enough to offset the little premium.

will have to see in january how prices and litecoins go for a 2nd one.

Board partners like to be conservative, I'd say a Toxic or Devil could see 1100Mhz easy, but board partners verge on caution, so maybe we will see 1060MHz maximum from others. :)

Now really counting on you to have me amongst the lucky 100 to have their cards for Christmas :D

- Waaaaaaa the bit coin miners have bough up all the 290s/Xs

- Waaaaaaa OcUK has managed to get Unobtainium Non-Ref cards in before Xmas

- Waaaaa I've given all my wages to Gibbo and can only a afford KFC for Xmas dinner..
 
I knew that as soon as these came out I'd want them (or something similar). I'll just have to hope that I'm not disappointed by my reference cards once I get them under water.
 
I was hoping for these being out before Christmas and even have money set aside for one.

But given the recent price increases due to all the crypto-currency mining I will be holding off until prices settle down to a more reasonable level.
 
Gibbo, can you please confirm if the card has a full size or mini display port output. The two 280x's I've just received are mini only, and with the case I use (FT02) and using the supplied adaptor I can't put the top of the case on, pretty annoying!

Dunno if this will help you but the box shot @ OcUK appears to be the same as Gigabyte sent out to press & showed up on videocardz:

So as long as they didn't use a prototype for the box shot it's probably accurate.

ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC With 1050 MHz Clock

The ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II is an overclocked edition card hence it ships with a factory overclock out of box. From a technical perspective, we are looking at the default 2816 Stream processors, 176 Texture mapping units, 64 Render Backends and a 4 GB GDDR5 memory operating across a 512-bit interface. I wonder if this has a custom PCB right from the start, Gigabyte has a habit of releasing custom coolers onto a reference design, thus voltage control with revision 1's.

Weeks, or months later along comes Revision 2.0, 2.1 great! custom PCB... oh no wheres has the voltage control gone....
 
Hello Gibbo I just made an order for the R290 version this morning at 8:23-24 is it possible of you could tell me if I'm within that 100 units bracket for before Christmas?

To be honest if I'm not I will likely cancel my order as this wont fall under my 'Christmas' present to myself and hold on until more models hit next year.

^^ Would like to know if there are any left - considering pulling the trigger but there is no point if they have all gone.
