Time and place to update your social media

Can't say I use social media that much, I have facebook for events and messages but that's about it. Why shouldn't I check it when I'm walking somewhere, provided I'm not going to be an inconvenience to anyone else? When I'm stationary I'm going to be doing something much more productive and/or fun than facebook, so walking places is my facebook time (helps living in a fairly rural area though I guess - screw doing that in london).

Makes me laugh that people brag about not being on Facebook but spend all their time here instead talking about the same stuff.

Who's bragging ?

OCUK forums are not social media and if you think they are then you need to look the term up. Honestly, how obtuse could you be ?

All the main topics on Facebook are all the main topics here with people discussing them just like here.
I'm even in a FB topic about Virus removal and helping somebody choose his next kit.
There are people talking about breakup relationships just like here and topics about PS4 and XBox One games.
I can look at peoples photographs of themselves and then come on here and do the same.
I can see what people have bought and come on here and do the same.
How is it any different?

First line of wikipedia article for Social Media:

Social media refers to interaction among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks.

How is this not Social Media exactly?

This story just doesn't surprise me:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-25426263

Every day I find myself bumping into people aor being held up while people they selfishly go about letting the world know that they have miraculously arrived at the station. Whilst not looking where they are going, I'm surprised there's not more serious accidents.

Call me old, but what is with people they they can't keep their faces out of their mobiles tech for 5 minutes.

Some of the recent advertisements portraying people walking around whilst using their mobiles isn't that far from the truth.

What do you think..?

I think it's a very sad, sad, needy, pathetic generation that exists today. All these insecure people that need to share.

reportedly this was the last message on the woman's FB

"Lol, fell off the pier. Drowning now. #YOLO!"

:p

Haha!

What is the difference between here and Facebook?
The only difference is I know people on Facebook but don't know anybody here, apart from that all the topics are the same.

Have you ever honestly wondered why? Nobody shuts up about it. People talk about it on the radio, tv broadcasting, internet, ads, work, school, college, university. You cannot get away from somebody talking about it. It's why so many people moan about it.

As for forums, forums have greatly changed over the past 5 years. They used to be fairly intelligent. Now peoples behaviour and way of thinking with all their use on Facebook and Twitter has grew onto forums.

The same type of posting on social media now exists on forums.

Look at all the people, "Ordered!" "Shipped!" "Bought this" and so on.

The masses has been groomed. Thats a fact. They can't see it because they're addicts.

A young girl on the train the other night was taking mobile pictures of her pretending to stick her tongue down this drunk blokes ear while he was asleep, then uploading them. Not surprising he woke up at one point and fuming at her demanding that she delete the pictures.. She was in tears. I had absolutely no sympathy for her and despite him being drunk i don't think she had really any argument.

this is how things are going:

I'm speechless. That is demented.

Nonsense. One is subjective the other is objective. Just because they share similar features within their framework does not make them the same. The difference is massive.

Explain it then, try and prove to me that the content isn't the same.

Perhaps the difference is you are on one and not the other.

Did you read it?

social media is, after all, the technology that people use to share their opinions and insights, and forums definitely provide that.

Quote mining huh ? Is that how you argue on the internet ? Very dishonest. Here, let me do what you do. This is from the same article:

If I'd give my insights, I think forums are not "social media"

So tell me, have I won now ?

Answer is no by the way. Oh and here's a roll eye's just for you !

You still haven't explained it.
All you did was quickly Google your question and then post something that actually agreed with me in it's closing statement.

Earlier the random person writing the article who isn't important says this:
In other words, the person finds social media as meaningless but forums are meaningful.

What a complete crock if that is the difference.
