I personally find it astounding in a time when jobs are scarce that employees are allowed to virtually dictate their terms of employment. Clive Bull on LBC just asked this muslim caller "if muslims don't want to sell alcohol and pork, why work there? Why not find another job?" This muslim chap said "Well, its hard to find jobs. But muslims think alcohol is bad for people and we don't want them to have it".
So this muslim did actually say he simply wouldn't work at M&S for those reasons. Fair enough. But his point about it being hard to find jobs. Well, DUH, exactly! Why don't M&S take a hard stance on this very point and stop pussy footing around trying not to upset people. Who are these people to dictate if people should drink alcohol. It's M&S's goods, they sell a lot of it and they're being employed to sell it. If someone worked for me and said they don't like the shirt I'm wearing, it offends them, I'd say suck it up, earn your money or **** off somewhere else and try and find another job.
