The New GPU 'Merry Christmas' Thread

The first bench is in. No idea if this is a good score or not. No tweaking and no massive cpu overclocks or anything.

Don't know about valley, but I've posted an entry in Kaaps Heaven thread.

Very nice Matt they look great in your case you just need a mobo now with red highlights :)
Also you've just made Mantle pointless :D;)

It's ok GM only he will be affected by his decisions, Mantle will still bring you great rewards (for Rig2) :)

Yea those cards are locked the 801 should be 800 in the numbers to be unlock able.

But tbh the 290 is a more than capable card!

all you need to do now is watercool them!

:)

Update!

No coil whine on either card, silent.

Fan noise not that bad infact anyone who said anything below 50% is loud ought to be shot. To me 60% and onwards is when it gets loud. Subjective as always, maybe my case is good for dumbing down the noise. Would have no problem between 50-55% fan noise at all imo.

No shocker here but runs hot. If i only had one card i think my temps would be a fair bit lower. Ideally could do with another slot between the cards i think.

Managed to under volt by 0.050mv so far with no problems or crashes. Didn't seem to make too much difference to temps though, a few C i guess.

No black screens so far.

Won't be doing much overclocking on this PSU. Undervolted 0.050mv and at stock clocks 975/1250, cppu at 4.8ghz. Valley 515-600W pulled from socket, sleeping dogs 530-680 Watt, Tomb Raider 500-560W. That's all with vsync off so thats worst case scenario. All games apart from BF4 i use vsync so i would expect lower figures most of the time.

Because of the way the cards work I don't think you'll change the temps as it will always go up to 94ºC (unless you change it in CCC). What you may get away with is lower fan speed.
This is why I'm not a fan of the get to 94ºC and then speed up the fan idea. Plus in my experience the card throttles when it gets to 94ºC as the fan doesn't ramp up enough and then because it throttles the fan ramps up slower...

Custom Coolers and waterblocks are the way to go I think.

I agree though that the fan isn't that loud until around the 50% mark (IMO), but compared to every card I've had recently (that I can remember), it is loud.
I'm basically comparing to reference Palit GTX 570, Gigabyte Windforce X3 GTX 670, EVGA GTX 670 FTW (reference 680 cooler) and HIS 7950 BOOST IceQ.

To be honest I don't think the TJ11 makes things any quieter either.

I ditched using overdrive in CCC and started using manual fan profile in afterburner. These are my settings so far. Not final settings, just a work in progress.

Yeah, I just created a custom fan profile too, a little more aggressive than yours though.
As you say, a work in progress.

Do you need the Power limit thing increased with a 290? Due to afterburner (and I guess anything else, e.g. GPU-z) not being able to read GPU usage correctly it's hard to tell.

I've not tried undervolting, might be worth a go, keep things a bit quieter maybe. Seeing as your cards have a slight OC applied out of the box, I wonder if your VCore was increased too?

Yeah i think i might need to make mine more aggressive the top card reached 94c and started throttling after a while of playing bf4 online with silly high fps, this was with the fan profile i posted previously. The bottom card seemed ok at around 88-90c. If i had a bigger case i think id be ok.

I just set the power limit at +50%, though as we know this will not stop the card from thermal throttling if temps rise. Not sure about my vcore its possible but its not a very large core overclock so i doubt it.

EDIT

-0.062mv gave me a black screen while loading BF4 first time. -0.050mv seemed stable, but needs a long testing session.

Tbh I'm well jealous Matt but my 7970 is going to more than enough for 1080 120hz. Now if I can just tell myself that enough times...
