No, i dont watch it myself. Ive no interest in a german bird who i have to pay to keep in a life of luxury spouting garbage on xmas day. She probably hates it herself, the fact that she has to talk to the commoners on tv who she and her priviliged family have the utmost comtempt for, but it's a chore she has to do out of public duty.

+1

Their assets, which they have inherited.
Are you arguing that inheritance should be forbidden entirely, with the government taking everything when a person dies, or would you put a cap on inheritance? If so, what cap would you impose?

Their inheritance is what their forefathers took from the people of this country.

If we replaced the monarchy with some more politicians right now, it wouldn't make England any more or less of a democracy

Do you even know what a democracy is ?
It is a state run by elected representatives and if we abolished the royals and created a written constitution which by the way this country does not have and don't bother mentioning the magna carta as that was between king john and the barons, Nothing to do with the ordinary people.

I can see your a royalist though so it's pointless to carry on as I would get more sense from a brick wall, Enjoy being a boot licker.

Wrong. They took it from the previous rulers, long ago.

It's a place ruled by the people. From the Greek demos, people.

In other words, a place that doesn't exist.

You're so busy running away with yourself that you didn't even finish your sentence. Or maybe you know that if we abolished the royals it wouldn't make any difference to how democratic this country is.

Also, you're wrong about the Magna Carta too. Which is no surprise given how little you know about this country, it's history or how it's governed. A key point about the Magna Carta was that it established rights for all free poeple of England, very clearly and explicitly stated as such.

I can see your a royalist though so it's pointless to carry on as I would get more sense from a brick wall, Enjoy being a boot licker.

You really don't have a clue. Enjoy your silly ignorant babbling.

Yes !
Not that i think its an awesome watch but if yea dont think its worth a watch pack yea bags and GTFO

If everyone who couldn't give a toss about the royal family packed their bags, i'd hazard a guess to say there wouldn't be that many left.

The Queen makes more money from tourism than she spends on living. You don't pay for her.

Quite the opposite.

Duke is right. I have no interest in the Queens speech but I can see what the monarchy brings to this country in terms of tourism and our presence on the World stage.

Shes the ultimate celebrity tbh. Charles will probably be a bit of a wet blanket but I can see William taking up the mantle nicely. The royal wedding and baby are evidence enough of the worlds interest in our little land.

Look how many people turned out for the Republican protests at her jubilee... Dozens don't really cut it to make an impact.

The Queen does more for this country and for this world than every person in this thread combined too. It would seem that some people don't like that idea though :)

Source for this? Sounds interesting.

Annual financial reports (PDF) for the Sovereign Grant is probably a reasonable place to start. Page 5/81 gives the introduction and explains that the Sovereign Grant is calculated as 15% of the net surplus for the financial year two years previous e.g. 2013-14 the Grant is £36.1m based on the net surplus in 2011-12 being £240.2m. There may be a number of reasons to disparage the monarchy but most of them are ideological, financially they are a net gain even if you're just counting the easily measured amounts on the Crown Estates and don't bother to try and calculate the amounts brought in through tourism/trade (both internal to the UK and international) or the almost completely incalculable benefits of the Queen's diplomacy.

I didn't watch the Queen's Speech, I can't remember if I ever have but I'm sure I must have done so at some point.
