new i3770 k kaput!!

Fitted a un-opened new i7 3770k on 27th dec, all was working well till this morning, now the thing wont post. I've checked everything, all power connections, removed gpu, ram and all hd's, but no screen. I decided to remove the cpu and re fit my i5 2500k, which i still have, and the pc booted up no probs.
I bought it off a power seller on ebay, ive just sent him a message, but what are my options, its clearly the cpu thats broken, so will he have to replace it or do i have to send it to intel?

what board? and did you flash to the latest bios first with the 2500k?

try a long cmos clear,battery left out a good 30minutes as it usually borks if you switch cpu's

hi, sabertooth z77, i did a re flash from the back of the i/o, before that i bridged the cmos, just wouldnt post, but as i said when i put the 2500k in it posted. it has been working fine, this morning i was in the process of reducing the cpu volts, getting it down to 1.2, but then i thought 1.19, but i think i may have done 1.9..... should the internal stop it before any damage could occur or have i fried it?

idk,1.9v is pretty high

all you can try is a long cmos clear,sometimes it needs longer so best to take out the battery

even if the 2500k works id still try a long cmos clear just to be sure,all you can do is return the chip or rma back to intel themselves

I will try the long cmos clear, but wont re flashing bios do this?, i dont fancy taking my mb apart to get to the battery thats all.

If you can get an invoice and buy an intel tuning plan, intel will replace the CPU even if you burned it with overvoltage.

Putting 1.9v through a 3770K almost certainly will fry it :| I can't remember specifics but somewhere around 1.35-1.4 is the max safe voltage for normal cooling and anything over 1.6v will quickly degrade them.

Yep, 1.9v is extremely high. Mine was a woeful clocker that wasnt fully stable at 1.34v for 4.5ghz. Voltage jumps were getting even higher so i ended up selling it.

I had it under a h75, was clocked 4.7 @ 1.25, so I desided to start lowering the voltage, getting to 1.2 I then thought let's do 1.19, instead I must have put 1.9. It only booted to a blue bsod screen then after that no post boot at all.

I think so, because you can buy this plan any day on the 1st year of ownership.

Cheers, I'll see what response I get from Intel customer service then take it from there, I thought there would have been safety parameters to stop this from happening.

If you payed with paypal are you not covered as he could have sold you a dead cpu.

He had the CPU working before he accidently put 1.9v through it.

Go back to Intel and see what they say but they should swap it out for you.

It wouldn't be right to get Paypal involved as the seller should not eat the cost due to the OP accidently Overvolting the CPU

I have an invoice from the supplier, they have a shop in Hyde so not just an eBay power seller. I think he had sold 50+ chips.
Noticed he's vat registered too.

The OP pushed 1.9 volts through the chip, he fried it, it's nothing to do with the guy who sold the chip.

Bear in mind the Intel plan states there is a 30day waiting period from taking it out to being able to use it.

If I don't get any joy with their customer service, I suppose I would have to wait the 30 days(I have an invoice from the company I bought it from). Was going to sell the i5, luckily I've still got it to see me by. The service is only$25, I would have taken it if I'd have known that in the first place.
