Upgrading my Boot Drive - Can I Clone without reinstalling?

Hey all,

I just recently purchased a Crucial M500 240GB SSD to Replace my now-outgrown OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD. I used the Agility 3 for my Windows, Pro Tools and various other important installations, and obviously my registry and various other bits-and-bobs are on there which are important to the main HDD.

My question... is it possible to install my new Drive as the (C) Disk without having to reinstall everything? I'm using an AsRock Extreme 4 x79 Motherboard if that makes any difference or if they have a utility to do it. If not a guide from one of you would be great! Thanks :)

yes

just clone it using free macrium reflect then expand the partition to fill the 240gb as it will be 60gb same as your agility

can resize partitions in windows

Awesome... So I clone the drive, shut down, remove the OCZ drive, and put my new M500 in it's slot, boot up and everything should work as usual.

All I need to do then is format the faithful OCZ and box it up for it's next owner... piece of cake!

Hey guys, I did as you said above (used the Reflect program to clone the drive).

However when I booted up again, all my icons are missing or showing the default ugly windows icons. Yet when I right click on them and try to change the properties it still shows the original icon.

Anyway I can restore the old icons? The Start menu was the same but I've just cleared it out.

That is fairly weird..

What drive letter is assigned to the drive?

It's very strange, some are still there but the majority are missing. The drive letters are all the same as they were previously, but I did boot up and have my Hard Drive temporarily unplugged (I booted up with minimal components installed just to check it was all ok).

I'll try the icon database thing, thanks

Well... just like magic, opening the command prompt and typing:

ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache

Cured it straight away, all my icons re-built themselves. Thanks a lot guys!
