There is a lot of activity on the overclockers PC Games forum and overclockers has a steam group.

So, Why is there not a community? What happened to our teamspeak server?

Why am I not on the ocuk Ts3 after work playing random games with like minded people?

A search for "ocuk ts3" nets a thread from 09, Am I missing something? is there an active ocuk gaming community / "clan"?

If not then why?

because most of the ocuk " community " has there own groups and friends who play together.

there was a mumble server which i asked 5ub to make ts3 but he never did it and he was supposed to be getting servers from multiplay for free but this never happened.

also tbh its better there is separate groups as not all mix well :D

so id join the ocuk group then see who plays with who join that group and use voice coms associated with that group. there are many to choose from , or..... buy your own as they are very cheap a 10 man ts3 for eg is 13 quid a year and takes a minute to set up.

We can all consider ourselves a part of the ocuk community, But I wish we had an ocuk Gaming Community.

Playing games can be a lot more fun with other people, I understand many ocuk'ers are part of other communities, Although if an ocuk Gaming Community (with Ts/mumble, A separate website and game servers ect) Existed I'd of joined many years ago.

From the various forums I have browsed, The professional, friendly, helpful and polite mannerism of the ocuk forum sets it well above the rest. Nonsensical, Trolling and flaming are seldom seen on this forum which is such a relieve from this age of sexist, racist and childish BS.

Seriously though would anyone be interested in this at all? No necessarily having a hardcore clan as such (Membership is a given to forum'ers) but a casual relaxed Gaming Community where you can have a laugh or a banter among fellow people.

what you want wont happen. there are many groups who stick together to form the base of ocuk gaming. what your asking is for those to abandon and form a ocuk official group which wouldn't work as in reality it isn't like the forums which are monitored for anything untowards. in reality everything you don't want, most groups do. its only natural and why people form there own groups so they don't have to conform to one way. ;)

For once I agree with Dg on this. There are lots of smaller groups. It's good to have some crossover but you'll never get everyone all together without drama. There's enough of it as things are to be honest.

No need for anyone to abandon any current groups, Consider the ocuk "Gaming Community" just that. except its public and open, a meeting ground of such.

People can do what they like, Be part of another group then occasionally play with the ocuk Gaming Community it doesn't matter.

I'm not asking for everybody to band together and create a huge ocuk "clan" but for the people who do wish, the opportunity to do so.

Obviously it raises the question "Alright cool but why should we (ocuk)"

Why should ocuk fund a teamspeak server / game server.
Why should ocuk make time to moderate the user base.
Why would we want to put our reputation on the line if someone from this "community" is naughty.

Why do non-profit organisations exist? Makes the world a better place.

Ocuk provides a lot of products for numerous applications primarily pc gaming, I've browsed these forums for 10 years +, I have called upon it for help, I have helped those in need, I've purchased from ocuk numerous times, recommended them and I trust them.

I believe ocuk to be the #1 PC Gaming company in the UK, I cannot be the only one who wants to be a bigger part of that.

I think the problem is that OCUK is a family friendly forum and for the most part, while playing games people arent family friendly so it would cause issues on teamspeak from those wanting an innocent game compared to those who communicate in swearies all the time. That alone would cause people to grief each other "telling on people" ect. People likes to troll.

I play in a few different groups here for various games and even various groups within those games. I'm a bit promiscuous like that you see but each group has their own teamspeak which is usually related to their clan or group, teamspeaks are relatively cheap and when a group involved its literally pennies a week to host one.

Smaller groups of people say 2-4 probably just use Skype and have a group chat on whatsapp/steam to organize playing together.

The hardest part would be heading a community with a leader everyone is happy to let mediate any problems, then you'd need to find someone who wants to deal with that anyway and you'd again get people separating away from this as they dont like how its being run. It is often easier to have your own admin rights on a server but thats easily done with a passworded channel on a teamspeak with someone having channel admin thats trust worthy for that channel, just again you need to be able to trust the owner of that server.

On this note, I'm happy for anyone to use our teamspeak, create yourself a channel and get an admin to permanent it if you want or just keep making it when you join the server, we have plenty of slots. If for some reason they all fill up, I'll look at increasing the amount but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

As for an actual OCUK community, I think most would agree here, at least for Arma related servers and similar types of games that MarkeR is the man for this. I think Linktart (apologies if this name is wrong) runs a Minecraft server? I don't know of anymore ocuk related community servers as everything else I play has its own servers or at least I dont have any regular servers I know of :)

Maybe its worth starting a post with links to communities and their respective games they host/support? Not sure if thats allowed through OCUK though.

:)

Edit: Heh I thought it was Frenchtart but I only glanced at your sig.

Thank you ToejaM, You've raised some valid arguments.

Leading the community would be down to the responsibility of the community, The last community I was part of shared leadership between all its members, Held community meetings where matters of import were discussed and acted upon them in the best way that benefited all.

I think like you say that there would be a lot of politics involved if it was officially OCUK branded and lead. I think what a lot of people here do is add "OCUK" to their server title to show that they post here and attract the posters from here to the server, seems to work pretty well overall.

Theres loads of politics involved in whos the right person for the job, as there is bound to be someone who ever you pick that people have an issue with, I guess you just have to put some trust in someone but many of the players in this forum already have their groups they rock around in and we all bounce between each others nests.

I think maybe a community teamspeak might work where people can idle to then group up if they are in the appropriate rooms or just join for a chat, almost like an "LFG" teamspeak between the OCUK community but as for running one in all forms, for all the servers needed present and future it would be an expensive thing and only something that OCUK themselves could source/fund (probably easily through their name alone with GSPs) but that leads back to them having to deal with who would run it, if not themselves.

I dont know how well it would work though but no harm in trying if someone wants to try it or like I said, happy for people to use our teampeak :)

Yup.. we have a MC server, Starbound and other games (ran KF, L4D, BFBC2 and so on in the past). We also have a mumble server which people are always welcome to use.

It would be interesting to get some kind of monitoring of all the various mumble/ts/vent servers up on here somewhere so people could easily fine like-minded folk.

I think we can agree the creation of forum thread containing all servers would allow people to easily find what we already have would be beneficial.

I'd like to see an official ocuk teamspeak so we can all congregate and play games together.

which is what i asked 5ub to do yr plus ago. :D

add 5ub on steam maybe and ask him about it. i gave up on it as every time i asked him an getting proper ocuk servers sorted both gaming and ts3 it was yeah hopefully soon but never materialized.

tbh its better how it is now and just joining the game related servers and voice coms there is no right person off here to run them anyway as most have people they dislike and can be judgmental.

5UB set up mumble and many game servers - and the choice for mumble was based on the results of a poll posted on here (most people asked for mumble).

Admin'ing a load of game servers is no simple task and cannot realistically be done by one individual (I'm not talking about looking after a few servers here and there - 5UB got a ton of them from Multiplay running at one point). Trusting OcUK members with the admin is a bit risky too as whilst some of us are mature there are others that won't be and anything bad happening could reflect upon OcUK itself.

There are literally a handful of people on here that could do the job in a mature way and not one of them would have the time or inclination to take it on.

edit: A forum thread listing all servers only works for as long as the original poster keeps it updated. In the past there have been a lot of these threads (both for specific games and an all-encompassing thread). They have lasted at best for a few months before never being updated again.

yeah and iu did a poll later on and ts3 was voted more popular ;) also more use ts3 than mumble but diehards would change from mumble.

only reason mumble is used is its often free with servers or cheaper than ts3. in reality ask most groups on here what they use and its teamspeak :D

5ub was on about getting free multiplay servers but never really happened.

there are admins good enough on here to run them but why run them when we can run our own ? that is why this wont happen unless 5ub and behind the scenes put a real effort into it.

The community already provides servers that are privately hosted and administrated.
Ocuk does not need to provide any game servers as they already are provided by members of the community.

If we forget the idea of ocuk hosting game servers for a second (that COULD come later or not at all) and concentrate on the 2 biggest things I believe is missing;

**Where in gods righteous name do I find a list of our servers?**

Without finding each individual thread its difficult to actually know if there are any ocuk servers or servers provided for ocuk members available.

There are Andybtsn, Werewolf, rjkoneill, Maccy, ThundyCat, Zefan, Davey_Pitch, hilly.
8 moderators for the PC Games sub forum, 8 people who can edit and update forum posts on request?

Sticky and lock it, any servers owners wishing to get there server added to the list need only PM one of the moderators with details,
Hardly a pain in the ass.

Then we just need a ts3/vent/mumble server to congregate and meet fellow ocuk gamers on. I'd prefer to have an official ocuk VOIP server but if ocuk wants no involvement then I can provide one or another member of the community can as they already have with game servers.

Completely ignore the idea of ocuk hosting game servers, I was jumping to far ahead I admit it's a nice idea but as Frenchtart pointed out it would be a resource strain on the team.

TLDR: We need an Official server thread and VOIP server. Job done.
