Yeah, the only sain people that will be buying them is video/photo editors because we don't have the hardware to use them for gaiming yet.

$2000 less than any competitor, can just imagine what the build quality is like.

Until there a review, then we can only speculate as to the quality, but if they like a DGM monitor, then then will sell, which only be good in bringing down the cost of 4k panels.

there are a bunch of 4K monitors appearing in the 1-2k bracket, the main difference between this and the 32inch Asus model is that the Asus uses a new IGZO panel, which is in itself an expensive panel... most of the cheaper models are using VA panels, which are better than TN but not quite up to IPS standards... they are however much much cheaper panels than the IGZO ones

At the price, i wouldn't be surprised it this was a TN Film based model (which i also expect the Dell P2815Q to be), but we will have to wait and see. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised!

What would you guys say will be the price for a decent 4K monitor when they are for sell? Also what GPUs are we talking to run these things - a r9 290 or two maybe three?

At normal viewing distances for a TV, there is no point in 4k below 55-60" as the human eye will not be able to differentiate (according to scientific reports).

While (obviously) monitors are viewed at considerably less distance than a TV, I just cant see any point in 4k monitors at these sizes.

Would much prefer a good quality 27" / 30" monitor to a slightly "cramped" 4k monitor at these dimensions.

depends... two probably.

BUT, remember you can run it at 1920x1080 (true 4:1 pixel mapping).. Not ideal but a great stop gap if you have some games that struggle at 4k.

I personally think a 'cheap' 4k monitor isn't much use, as you still need to spend a ridiculous amount on hardware in order to be able to run it decently, unless you just want it for desktop/light app use. Those who can afford that hardware can also afford the expensive monitor :p :p

As far as I'm aware these all use the same TN panel. This was confirmed by the specifications of the Philips P288P6 which uses this panel.

With 680s in SLI at 2GB arguably at the edge of what is deemed "capable" at 2560x1440, I can imagine you need about 4 times the horsepower to run "acceptably" at 4K. So count me out for the next 3 or 4 graphic card release cycles ;)

Yes the UP2414Q is IPS. A range of other 4K IPS panels of different sizes will be coming at us starting with various LG models as well. Perhaps Q2 before we see those, maybe later this quarter at a push.
