Tell me to man the hell up

this sounds very familiar with my uncles story,

Dentist check up, advise to go to maxillofacial unit for tests,

test came back positive for cancer, and had half his tongue removed 8 days later,

all this is true, I kid you not, start to finish, maybe 3 weeks :(

Ok, that's not what I wanted to hear. Now I'm officially scared.

A friend of mine had a tongue biopsy a few years ago in regards to tongue cancer scare.

He had a reaction to it when they sliced a bit of his tongue away. The tongue bleeding wouldn't stop and he was sick from swallowing too much blood and his tongue swelled quite bad and he had to have a tube put down his throat for him to be able to breath.
He was only like this for a few hours though and apparently this is very rare.
Just like all procedures, there are risks albiet quite small with most.

Well thats going to make him feel great knowing that !!!

Which is exactly what they are trying to do. This is GD remember...

I know. It would be nice if that wasn't a true story he told though.
Do you smoke?

Stopped rollups on 17th december and switched to vaping. But I don't know if the liquid in vaping has irritated my tongue further, stopped it repapillating and made it look superficially worse than it might otherwise. no one can really answer that though, just saying.

So I stopped vaping since saturday temporarily. I used to let my rollups hang from the left of my mouth and it's the left of the mouth that has this patchiness. That doesn't automatically say it must be some malignant disease caused by smoking, it could just be from heat from the smoke that scrubbed the top of my tongue. Smoking also can cause yeast infections as it weakens the defences in the mouth.

I wish it was just geographic tongue (glossitis), which looks exactly like my tongue. Geographic tongue is completely benign and just goes away by itself over a period of time. Only problem is, that normally migrates to different areas, but the right of my tongue is not affected. With some luck, I hope it may be some form of glossitis or infection which will prove to be nothing major.

Oh and btw, thanks for all the positive comments of good luck :) I will of course update this thread next week (biopsy 10am on the 15th) after my tongue is cut to shreds, and then again when the results come through, however long that might take!

short term pain but long term gain. Man up; get the procedure over and done with and enjoy the rest of your life. Hope it all goes well for you :)

Thats the precise reasoning I was going to give you it could easily be nothing. The c word is mentioned in almost every single symptom imaginable posted on the internet.

The last 3 are a joke! :p

It's clearly playing on your mind, so 15 minutes or so of discomfort to get a definite answer has got to be a far far better option than worrying yourself to death about it and thinking about everything it MIGHT be.

Good luck!

Yep. This test seemed to prove positive for me, http://www.candidasupport.org/free-home-tests/saliva-test/

so if it's not oral thrush, it may be some other form of yeast infection that needs some other treatment.

Absolutely right! I think it's easier to deal with most things to do with health that aren't to do with the big C. You think, ok, operation, in hospital for a few days or however long, then done. But the worry is much greater with the thought of dealing with the big C. I mean, how does one deal with that prospect? It's unimaginable!
