Have you ever experienced racism from a minority?

These days it's all too often to hear people playing the anti-black race card. Sometimes it's true, sometimes not. But how many of you think you have had an experience where a black/Indian/Asian/whatever has been racist towards you as a white person, or when you were certain that this was the case?

I mention this because I had an odd situation at work. A black girl was trying to get some information off me about something, and right off the bat she was exceptionally rude and wouldn't even look me in the eye. I was calm the whole time and did what she wanted, all the time thinking her behaviour was remarkable. She then went to talk to a black colleague but before she did I said to her, "I warn you, this girl is exceptionally rude". When she came back my colleague said, "I don't know what you're talking about, she was one of the nicest people I've ever spoken to". I was stunned and told her how she had been towards me, to which she said, "well, maybe it's because I'm from Jamaica".

Now, of course I don't know she was being racist and maybe there was another reason for her attitude. But I did think it was strange that after she initially went to talk to me she went over to her friend [also black] and was laughing and joking, then she would come back to me and her mood would change instantly. Which kind of put the flag up.

This is a bit of a tricky topic for obvious reasons. But has anywhere here experienced what they think could be racism from a minority?

All the time when doing security work, if I'm stood on the door with a black guy and a black person comes to the door and I refuse them entry because they're too drunk, not dressed correctly etc. or I've removed them for doing something they shouldn't the first thing most will do when they notice my black colleague is instantly refuse to talk to me any more and start trying to talk to my colleague.

I had some woman suck her teeth and call me ********* for pulling her up on queue-jumping (I think it was) once. I was really hurt. :p

lol, yeh, i never thought about it tbh, but i didnt give a damn really when he didnt serve me, i just said "oh, right, ok, laters" and walked out....

i dont think white people generally get offended by it really, well... not in the UK anyways!

My sister lives in Lewisham and regularly gets "abuse" when she shops in the Halal places.
Racial and sexist. Nice people. Doesn't phase her at all.

It's not the fact people try and ignore me because I'm white that bothers me, it's just people ignoring me that makes my blood boil!

Many times, but I've also been the minority in countries I've lived.

I also found that many Europeans have treated me inconsiderately until they find out that I'm not English. Not sure that would be racism though. Many look down on the British in South Africa where I'm from so it's not totally unusual.

Most recently I was at a friend's Eid celebration and being the only white person there I received a few remarks questioning my presence. One was particularly unkind, but my host just shouted something at him and he was fine after that.

I prefer to call it personal preference and it doesn't bother me.

I am White and British and yes I have.

Once I was called a "white b*****d" by an Indian man when walking around Birmingham, I don't even know what I did. My best guess was I accidentally cut in front of him when walking around shopping.

Also had an Indian plumber come to a place of work and ignored me when I said hello, ignored me when I asked him if he wanted a drink so I assumed he didn't speak English. He then walked right past me to my work colleague who is Indian and spoke perfect English. I was baffled.

Not had much luck really :P

Yes, at school two stupid Asian kids used to shout stupid white boy in their native tongue at me for some reason.

Never let it bother me though, as I just they were retarded.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Obviously, I'm not using chicken dinner as a racial stereotype.

90% of the staff in the shop I buy my spices, seafood and indian produce in are absolutely sound as a pound, really friendly and talkative.

There's one old indian woman I see sometimes who doesn't say a word and looks at me like I'm ****, I just react by acting really jolly which seems to annoy her more. You know how much I care? Not even a little bit.

Her son just says she's old and set in her ways, it's like my grandad being racist, you just kind of accept it, older generation and that.

I would have just burst out laughing!

But nope, at least i don't think so, but being white-Latino i have that special skin tone that lets me easily mix with White, Indian and middle eastern. Most people that don't know me assume I'm either Italian or a very light skinned middle eastern.

Once in a Bangladesh airport the guard checking my passport asked me if i was a Bollywood star and kept going on about how handsome i was, to the point where it was starting to get a little creepy. My wife at the time was very amused and wouldn't let me forget it for a while!

I was called a 'Gori b***h' last week whilst attempting to stitch the head of a lovely young chap who had been bottled.

Lewisham is a depressing place. I've had to go there a few times and once I even came back angry because of how horrific the people were - and I'm talking about white chavs more than blacks.

This is exactly it. I think it's hard to get hurt by casual racism unless you're not proud of your race. And most people are proud of who they are/their lineage etc.

I would have been disappointed if this response had not come up.

Amazing. If you'd called her a chimp I wonder if that would have been an acceptable retort!
