780ti RMA/DSR

Well I am having some major issues with my 780ti. I cannot for the life of me get it to work ok. I can surf the net ok, watch videos and sometimes but not always play games. Most of the time, as soon as it's anything remotely 3d intensive it just crashes. Temps seem ok .

My question is, do I RMA or DSR? I have redeemed the games so am most likely gonna get shafted price wise for those. Any idea how much btw?

My old gtx 580 seems to work ok and with the 780ti i have tried several diff drivers, diff 8 pin connectors, diff pcie slots, rebooting in safe and removing old drivers, literally everything i can think of.

You might be asking well why don't I just RMA. Well there is always the tiny chance it's something on my end still, even though unlikely. So if they test it and it's found to be working ok, I am stuck with a card I can't use. Could OCUK then say my DSR period is over while waiting for RMA results?

If I just DSR it then it's less hassle minus the games issue. Any advice?

Free games are free, shouldn't influence a dsr refund.

As for choosing dsr or rma, if its still in dsr period then a faulty unit would be changed out by ocuk not the manufacturer, afaik anything under 28 days old is dealt with in house. So turn around on a faulty unit wouldn't take long at all.
You can always mention in a cs post that if they find no fault that you'd like a refund, you'd get charged a testing fee (think its £25) but thats all.
What psu are you using?

Ah right, that sounds like a good idea. I don't mind paying a small fee that maybe goes towards restocking too. That was my main concern, sending it off to gigabyte, me waiting a millennia and then being told it's fine and here's your card back.

Slight update but I may have found the problem but it's rather embarrassing I am right, haha. So I will update shortly once I have done some more benching at stock settings.

As for PSU, it's a thermaltake 875w so has been fine for my 7990, 7970x2, 580's etc etc.

You can not DSR if you claimed the free games, it tells you this on the Overclockers code page. Your only option is to RMA it.

DSR requires you to return any free gifts included.

Exactly.

If people used the code and it has not effect on getting the card fully refunded under DSR, imagine how many people will buy graphic card to play with it for a few days to a week, and send the card back for full refund while profited from the games for free (less the deliver costs of course).

I did not know this, I dsr'd a 7970 without codes without issue so based it from that.

Quite a few did this and I suspect that people were taking the mick in the end and so retailers closed that loop hole. My theory anyway.

Well that's the thing, I fully accept taking a hit for the games if by some miracle it isn't faulty. I just don't wanna get ripped off since I have spent near £2k with overclockers in the past 2 years or so. If they say ok it's £40 a game or something, well... let's just hope not hey.

I had a slightly loose wire on the PSU side, so assumed it might be that but still no. It's really hit and miss though but the main thing that replicates it is banging the settings upto high and watching it crash. Gonna tinker with it over the next day or two and if still no luck do the RMA then and see how I get on. I don't see why my PSU shouldn't be upto the job in theory so am out of ideas.

I hope this famous overclocker customer service does not disappoint.

Try running at stock settings on your cpu. If its the psu that might just free up enough juice. Although you did run a 7990 so it probably is not that.

I will try that too before I sent it back. As you mentioned with the other card it was fine but certainly worth a shot first.

Are you running the latest bios on your motherboard? If not is worth updating it as that can sometimes cause problems with the latest gpu's

Ah well...

I had a thermaltake toughpower 875 which I eventually replaced with a Seasonic X850 as I was getting a lot of crashes. Think it helped, but at similar time I changed memory too.

Not saying it is that though.
