*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Going to have this sent back, the yellow tint is just way too much and I'm 99.99% sure that this is not some kind of glue issue. I believe that it is just the way the panel has been manufactured. If I tilt the display between 10 & 20 degrees forward from looking at it straight on the whites become much better. So there's nothing on the screen that's discoloring it.

I did the same with a htc one and it does a similar thing, the good whites went blueish. So it seems to be just a product of the manufacturing process, possibly an issue with polarizing filters.

Good luck! Seems to take some time for the returns material to turn up! Mine only went in the post on Thursday and I requested RMA on 2nd Jan!

I decided I would try franco kernel first and see how well it looks with some colour settings tweaked... Just rebooting now.

Franco kernel seems to work and I spent about 4 hours last night tweaking the gamma values in the least user friendly app I have ever seen. It was a pain in the pooper. I got the white balance to a much better level but colours etc are still a bit off and I need to check with my housemates n5 but I think the kernel has changed some other gamma settings too.

Am I right in thinking I can flash the default kernel back on, use triangle away, unroot an return this to Google. It's become too much of a faff on.

Just restore it to stock and lock the bootloader. Easiest way is to use the Nexus root toolkit.

Elemental X kernel seems to have done the job perfectly. White is now better and brighter than my housemates. Got knock to wake now too.

I am happy again :)

How is the screen compared to the s3? I'm thinking about upgrading and this is high up my list, but I'm reading differing views about the screen.

I've had an s3 since launch and bought myself a Nexus 5 two weeks ago. My very first impressions of the N5 screen was "meh, it's ok" the colours didn't pop like i was use to on the s3. Now a fortnight later and i love my n5 screen and now think my s3 screen looks stupidly over saturated. The colours on the n5 are much more natural and now that I've got use to it I'd definitely choose it over the s3 screen. Also the n5 screen is so much better when it comes to reading web pages, ebooks etc... the sharpness of the text is on another level, i guess that's thanks to the 1080p display.

I know you only asked about the display but I'll just add that this thing absolutely flys compared to the s3, i use to think my s3 felt pretty smooth and fast but it now feels stone age when using it and comparing the two, the difference is night and day.

Can't decide to buy now becouse its in stock or buy latter when finances are better but risk it going out of stock? Decisions, decisions.
I reckon the initial rush is over and it will now be permanently in stock, so if you can't fully afford it right now then I'm sure they'll be in stock once you can.

Thanks for the reply. I mostly use mine for browsing and texts so it's nice to hear about the sharpness. I also meant to ask about how responsive it is as my s3 is so sluggish now. I often feel like chucking it out of the window! :p

A girl I work with has the S3, and while I'm sure some of it is down to her clogging the phone up, it's horrendously slow to use, in comparison to my Nexus 5. I was actually quite shocked at just how slow it felt! :(
