What have you done to your car today?

Solid, what did you use, is it just cutting compound by hand?

Looks amazing please share what you used and method etc

Just the 3M kit, but I got a load of pads off ebay, so wasn't limited to using like 3 per headlight, so they came out much better this time than my previous efforts, also cleaned all the green gunk that was behind the rubber seal around the edge of the units.

You want http://www.3m.com/product/information/Headlight-Lens-Repair.html rather than the halfords one, as this contains various grit pads.

Well I just smashed my wing mirror and by me I mean some **** in a land rover freelander who feels the need to sit in the middle of the road because he doesn't want his car near the hedge. Wonder how much this is going to cost. Luckily the mirror unit itself is relatively unscathed but the glass bit is all cracked and some of it broken off.

Earlier today I put my seat in my car as I removed it after putting anew heater matrix in a few weeks ago. Need to go for a test run. I also ran the oil temp and oil pressure cables engine side and attempted to put it into the sandwich plate but think its a ramp job. Going for a blast one day this week when the weather is good.

Anyone used a Lion (brand name) battery? £53 for a 100/70ah battery at ECP with my discount. Has a 3 year warranty also.

A couple of mates have had them from ECP as they got a good deal and they all seem fine up to yet, but only about a year in for one of them, should be ok though if it's cheaper than the competition.

Yeah i am sure it is what i bought for my first car and it worked fine for the 2 years i had it.

My car is still holding the original battery. Completely utterly dead. Doesn't even try to turn over.

Some tax and a battery tomorrow for the old girl.

Oil filter housing gasket on the e46 (technically yesterday but had to finish re-assembling today as I only started about 2 and lost light/ the will to keep going).

Simple job that turned into a complete pain in the arse with things just not coming off / bolts that shouldn't be difficult to remove ending up needing heat etc so glad it's now done.

You can see just how minging it was in behind where it had been liberally leaking all over the block (not actually losing very much oil at all, but it makes a right mess). I didn't really manage to clean it up much either as I was losing light fast when I actually got to pull the housing away but done now and hopefully sorted

Oh and I fixed my drivers side seat - pressing forward was only moving a couple of inches then stopping (Even more annoying that the base position didn't work at all with the memory function). Stripped the covers, checked the wiring and cleaned up the contacts, seems sorted now

Just the e46, same old story it wouldn't be remotely difficult on a newer car, especially at that side of the engine bay as there's loads of room once the intake stuff is out but the alternator needs to come off and its bolts had welded themselves to the brackets, then I had to file a little to get it back on without too much brute force. I also put a new bottom intake boot on as mine is showing signs of being a bit worn at the icv tube (not enough to be letting in air but it'll happen eventually) only to discover...after putting the gubbins back on securely around it that it's a very slightly different part so it had to come back off.

At that point I gave up and sorted it this morning!

Someone decided to reverse into my car today whilst parked and drove off.

Anyone know of anyone selling a 2001 Topaz blue E46 330ci passenger wing?

Yesterday I learned all about the Peugeot's rear drums. I had not worked on rear drums before other than to adjust a handbrake. I decided to replace the handbrake cable and shoes to ensure it's refreshed.

Little did I know that whoever had fitted it previously had managed to make it fit the wrong way around and I was trying to replicate that, completely baffled at how they managed to stretch the springs behind the shoes. One Google picture search later and found how it should have been assembled. Much easier. Although I still hate shoe springs :p

Behind the shoe???? That shouldn't even be possible with the shoe fully secured

Edit the oil filter housing saga may not be over - looks like it may be weeping. Hoping, really hoping that all I'm seeing is whatever residue came out when I removed the housing from the block and not that I need to strip everything and re-tighten after the metal has heated up.

My only thoughts of how they could have done it is to have maybe removed the hub, then built up the shoes off the car then put them on the wrong way. Either way I couldn't manage to put them back on that way!

Topped up screenwash.

Removed/refitted the hardtop and adjusted the latches so it doesn't squeak (this has been doing my head in over past few weeks, pleased to get it sorted).

Prepared the proper OEM spoiler that I bought on ebay to replace the cheapo ebay lip. The OEM spoiler is designed to fit with 3 holes drilled in the bootlid - no chance I'm doing that, so I cut off the three dowels that stick down from under the spoiler, making sure it was all smooth, so it can be stuck on. Gonna leave fitting it until it warms up a bit though, not sure the 3m tape will be as sticky when its this cold/damp/horrible.

Updated the built-in Sat-Nav, gave it a quick wash and then replaced all my interior and number plate lights with LED's. Soooo much better and more modern looking than the orangy/yellow of normal bulbs. Had to take my front passenger side door card off to change the courtesy light in the bottom of the door as the cable was caught and wouldn't allow the light to come out.
