Downgrading Sky or getting rid

I do the exact same package (Tele, BB and E+ & F1HD) as you but we're paying £41 monthly.

Go get yourself 50% code for telly or blag to leave. If they don't offer anything better, they will in 2 days time. Otherwise, leave and then join again with your other half's name.

Note: Maybe riskier now that F1HD is part of the Sports package, we managed to blag F1 HD to stay on Entertainment+ because my missus threatened to leave. They gave us free broadband, cheaper TV and HD, which made it £41. Essentially, half price telly tbh.

I,m in same boat with same package as OP
Ive just cancelled the tv side of things but i,m keeping the phone and broadband as the service is good. I wasnt offered any 50% off deals though ?
But ...hey ho,Netflix here i come :)

I've just done this myself, it took three phonecalls for them to actually cancel my TV packages and in the end I actually got duped into extending my phone and broadband contract for a further 12 months. To cut a long story short I was phoned up by a manager offering me 50% off my broadband and calls as way of an apology. What she didn't mention was that from the date of that phonecall she essentially set me up on a new contract at a 50% discounted rate for the first 6 months. Now I'm slightly annoyed by this because she didn't mention it at the time, I didn't even realise until I received a lovely letter from them in the post a few days later.

They're a bunch of cowboys, their customer service department is terrible and as soon as this 12 months has passed I'll be switching over to Virgin. I've been a customer of Sky for the past 6 years and it seems they don't really give two ***** about their existing customers.

I would say either go freeview or as someone else said you have a dish and get freesat. You can cancel your sub to Sky and still get the basic channels anyway (including some HD ones). For £5 a month you could get Netflix and they have a Netflix for children which should fill the void some what.

Yeah, we looked into Freesat and very nearly bought a Humax, we may still go down that road yet.

I already have Netflix and I find it absolutely great value for money, can't say we ever had value for money from Sky TV wise. I do miss Sky Atlantic and some of the stuff on the History Channel but the rest of it was utter tosh. We've just tried to put Channel 5 on in HD and it's giving us the message that we need to call up Sky and upgrade our package, I was under the impression that the HD versions of the terrestrial channels were free?

I was looking at a Humax myself, haven't actually bothered because I find I watch less and less live TV anyway so it isn't worth it. Cancelled the Virgin package we had not long after we moved in because it costs so much when you start adding it up.

I thought they were free as well, pretty sure when I tried the gfs spare Sky box to see if the dish that was already installed was working I could get some HD channels.

Apparently Channel 5 decided to make their HD channel subscription based which I find to be an absolute joke! I'm thinking we'll cancel our TV package with Sky completely, I'd cancel the broadband and phone too if they hadn't duped us into a new contract! Might be a cooling off period though so I'll have to read the letter through again. If so they can stick it and we'll go with Virgin for BB and phone.

Freeview HD + US Netflix seems a decent compromise to me. I tape a lot of what I watch and its that convenience thats key...

ps3ud0

Totally agree coupled with a PVR it's the best I got a freesat one (Belgium) the only thing is my wife is hooked on US reality shows is there a way to get them without having E! channel?

I've tried looking at the net but there doesn't seem to be another way to get them. They maybe on itunes but the season pass on that is usually dearer than the sky package :o I have told her several times that we are paying 28€ a month for this.

It's an odd move, sure, but I also can't fathom having Sky without the HD pack.

Cancel sub, eventually they'll get in touch with you either by post or phone and offer you half price deal. Rinse and repeat. I've not had to pay a full price sub in years.

Sorry, didn't know this thread was still active.

Still not got round to ringing them. Sky Tv just isn't getting used anymore. Lewis has been watching stuff off of lovefilm on his Xbox in his room and mrs as watched hollyoaks/benefits street/that Paddy Mcguiness thing with the girls (all free channels)

Going to ring them now, will report back.

£37 is a good deal compared to my £42 that we took last summer.

However, a little over £1 a day for TV and Broadband, can you do *much* better with just BB that's unlimited / unthrottled during peak hours. Line rental is already £15 / £12 a month. I personally would take it - assuming F1 HD is still included.

By everything, i meant everything in my OP.

£37 includes phone line/ unlimited broadband/ sky entertainment+/ Sky HD/ F1HD

Comes in quite useful as no doubt i would miss my Formula 1 on a lazy Sunday.

Sky gave me 75%off

What do you pay then?

I told her i would start a new contract if she would give me it for £32 there and then. Wasn't having any of it though.

Agreed, I reckon I could quite easily watch 6+hrs of TV every day especially now there is On Demand stuff. One the rare occasions I have to dip into the depths of the planner I can always find something of interest. There's loads of highly rated shows I've never even found the time to give a chance! Repeats don't bother me either, I'm not bothered if something is 3 years old if it's good and I haven't seen it before.

Realistically even if 95% of TV were complete tosh, the remaining 5% is more than enough to fully occupy me as there are so many channels.

This is my view on it.

I love Sky. With all the channels, the record function and on demand, there is never one evening when I don't have enough TV to watch. However, I am lucky with the cost.

I still live with my mum and brother who have their own boxes, so the £100 monthly bill is split 3 ways, so I get the whole package for about £33 a month ( a quid a day)

Absolute peanuts for all the great telly, sports and movies I get.

The internet is not fast enough so me and my brother pay £18 each to get virgin 120mb. So basically I get all the sky TV and 120mb broadband for £51 a month.

Going to ring them this morning, see if I can get them down anymore or at least throw in a new sky remote (broke mine on Monday )
