Ah, the old MS are doing better at restocking twaddle, I wondered when that would crop up.
How is it twaddle? Oh wait it's you nevermind.

So because MS have done a good job of getting stock into stores it means nobody wants one? LOL
The point is if the demand was still there they would be going out of stock in shops almost as soon as they came in, it can take less than an hour for a heavily in demand item to sell out (as we're still seeing with PS4), it takes several days for said retailer to receive a new shipment.

My point was that the box is as big a differentiating feature as anything else, considering the systems are virtually identical.
Why attempt to launch in what 50+ countries now if you cant afford to produce enough consoles? Seems a bizarre point to realise you cant afford to launch a console rather than earlier in multiple years it takes to get it ready? Seems more likely you would reduce the number of countries you launched in if you were having some problem making them...Can't is possible, Sony are not in the best of places financially and a console launch is very expensive.
Sorry dude, dont get your point. Sounds like at first it be best to get the one thats easily available but then you counter that with your last line. Not releasing in more countries would guarantee a flop. A sell out of a small number in a country would be a much better position than not even releasing. If you were looking at next gen consoles, and only one of the two is even available for a year or so, which would you get? How long did it take the PS3 to catch up?
Scarcity creates hype. It's so good you can't even get one!
Yep, we won't be able to read anything into the sales numbers yet, PS4 is still extremely supply limited and XB1 is still only out in 13 countries. It will become more clear in the next few monthsPointless thread is pointless.
I think everyone knew the PS4 would considerably outsell the XB1, that's not even news. I think the "true" figures will be more interesting when both consoles are fully available worldwide, in every country, and have been for several months. By that point we'll know just how big the sales difference between the two consoles are (and I still expect the PS4 to have a significant lead).
Ultimately, you can read the sales figures any way you like. If you're Pro-Sony you can say how many more they would have sold if they'd released more consoles. If you're Pro-MS, you can say how many more they would have sold if they'd been able to release the console in more than 13 countries.
At the end of the day, both consoles have sold exceptionally well, and will likely continue to do so. It's good for us as gamers that there is competition, even if one side is taking a healthy lead. Maybe that'll force MS to either reduce the price, or introduce a Kinect-less SKU, something a lot of people seem to want.

I don't think they need to be as focused on each other for sales, tablets and and smart phones are whats going to be eating into their christmas sales for a while now. Both will continue to sell but I think the sales of both will be well down on where they both were after 2 or 3 years.
I'm not convinced about tablets eating into their sales. I think the company who will lose the most to tablets/mobiles are Nintendo. They sold a LOT of Wii's to people who weren't really 'gamers' and just bought one to play one or two family friendly games. I think these are the people that will happily move onto Tablets, where as the more serious gamers will continue with the consoles.
Sony aren't doing as well as they used to, but are not in the poor house, they did record a profit last year. ^^
Producing 5 million consoles in advance & shipping them (which is less than they did) would have cost under £1bn. They can afford this easily.
Even with marketing & R&D on top it's pocket change for a company of this size.
Given the PS4 has sold 150k + more than the xbone when the xbone had a head start isn't a great start. Even worse when you consider the UK was by far the 2nd best market MS has for it's consoles.
I agree, the trouble is the 'more serious' gamers are in the minority. You only have to look at the number of sales the Wii and DS managed. It's interesting with a large family of young children particularly on my wifes side watching the trends of these things.
First they all wanted an xbox or wii, then DS's and now they all have some brand of tablet and an iphone/smartphone. This xmas I haven't heard one kid say they wanted a next gen console of any type at all. It's all been about smart devices.
I only know 2 people in real life that even got a next gen console. I think those devices will eat into sales sadly (tablet gaming sucks) I hope I'm wrong for the future of the industry but time will tell.
