** LATEST GIGABYTE LAPTOPS NOW AVAILABLE FROM OcUK INCLUDING P35K / P34G!! **

Hi gents.

Ive been tempted by the P35k for a while now. Im not sure which model to get yet as neither are perfect for me.

Ive got a 1TB SSD in my current laptop. Is there any problems with taking the HDD out of the P35k and putting my SSD in? Id just install the OS onto that drive to save having a split drive system.

And is Windows 7 supported?

Thanks

Do we know when the 800 series GPU's will be released? I know the P35k is quite new but it took so long coming out that new updated versions might follow soon.

I got my P35k today but it had to be sent back. The area around the front optical drive was bent.

I noticed there isn't a spare empty HDD bay for the front. Can these be ordered separately?

Shame that yours was not tip-top - CF-2 model, or CF-4? My CF-4 was fine, but others had issues early on - I think these were CF-2 versions, mind? DId the packaging have a centre/central foam support?

Was that from OcUK? If so, give them a call or post in the Customer Services sub forum......

The HDD caddy should be in the box - I think mine was in a little poly bag with the paper manual etc., it is only a slim 'shell' so, I have left it in the laptop box for now (can't see I will use it, but you never know!)

Thanks for the reply.

Yes it was the CF2 model but the packaging had the center foam piece. I called support and they said I needed to return it for inspection before they would send out another. I asked if I could simply order another and refund the first, which they agreed to.

It wasn't badly bent but Id like it to look perfect when spending £1200. It dipped in the middle slightly and the ridge above the front drive bay was bent. Most noticeable when the drive bay was removed.

I didn't unpack the rest of it so I guess the spare bay is where you said. Thanks for the heads up on that. Ill probably be using it on my replacement.

Agreed it should be perfect, especially at this price.
Hopefully your replacement will be fine - I really like mine, excellent laptop. I was wary of the build issues that have been talked about, and was therefore relieved that mine was perfect.......fingers crossed you get it sorted quickly and satisfactorily :)

Just received my 2nd P35k.

How much bending is normal on these? This one seems a little better but it still touched the table in the centre. The gap between the screen and the bottom part is a little bigger in the middle.

We're only talking small amounts here so I don't want to keep going back and forth with OCUK. Does your perfect model touch the table in the middle? There is a strip towards the front on the underside and that is what is touching the table.

Im disapointed with OCUK. They said they would open this one up before sending it out to make sure it was perfect. The laptop was unopened and not perfect. Wasting everyone's times and turning what should be a nice treat for myself into a bitter experience.

And I hope Gigabyte learn that if they are making a laptop with some weight to it then they need to have a strong enough chassis for it. The bottom needs to be stronger.

I haven't read all this thread but from what Ive learned I think Gigabyte just opened up the old stock and added the padding. They didn't scrap the old stock so the damage was already done. The padding isn't going to fix already damaged laptops.

:(

Not good......I will take a really close look at mine this evening, and see if I can see any bend. So far, it has looked perfect, but......If I can, I will post up a couple of photos.

Really not good enough, on an expensive piece of kit - I would head over to the Customer Service sub-forum and try to sort this out with them.

A picture would be great thanks. And if any other owners could check to see if the front strip towards the front on the underside touches the table that would be helpful too.

The problem is that there is no such thing as "trivial bending". If it has already bent then that means that the structural rigidity is forever weakened and compromised, a bit like having a small crash with a bike helmet and then seeing a little crack appear.

I would 100% refund a laptop with any bending damage, as it is wholly unacceptable on a premium piece of hardware like this. The fact they just repackaged everything and called it v2.0 is tantamount to mis-representing and mis-advertising the goods... as the actual hardware is not a revision v2.0 at all, only the packaging is.

In fact, I would say that trading standards would also have an issue with that, so may be worth contacting them to see what they say.

Certainly from what limited information is available in the wild, the consensus is that there is revision 2.0 packaging, but the hardware is the same...
Pretty sure a US supplier took an alleged 2.0 hardware revision apart and found no difference around the nominal 'weak point' - front centre, where the optical bay is. Check NotebookReview forums for a 162 page thread on the P35k in general, with these issues discussed in the latter half.

Still, not *all* are affected to the point of showing a problem - mine seems fine. That said, I am conscious that it is something I will keep a close eye on, and will be quickly in contact with Gigabyte should any issue arise.......but, in the meantime, loving the laptop!

Richdog, do you own a P35k? If so, does the strip at the front touch the table below the optical drive?

Also, where is the Windows 8 key?

Also, where is the Windows 8 key? Ive put my SSD in the front bay and trying to install Windows 8 on it but I can't the key underneath the laptop where my previous laptops kept it.

Nope I don't own one, I was thinking about it but then decided not to based on the issues I read in this thread.

Well Ive now received 3 laptops, all damaged to some extent. The 2nd was the best as it was nearly perfect.

Im afraid Ive given up on this laptop, a real shame.

Any pictures to show that these v2.0 you received are all bent? Mine was v2.0 and it's still perfect :) Or maybe I am just lucky :D
