Just got a few of these from OC and am not impressed to say the least. 1 is DOA and just blue screens the mobo (clean win 8 install no drivers present etc). The rest install ok but the accompanying 'HIS TURBO' that supposed to let you overclock them doesn't work.

Can't access any temps on them either.

The whole lot is going to be boxed up and sent back if HIS cant fix today.

Also not impressed with OC telephone support either, first time I used OC and dropped best part of £2k on GPU cards only to be told 'its probably a motherboard issue' expect that sort of crap from PCWORLD not a supposed specialist company in overlocking.

Tried 2 different brand new motherboards and same on both.

Not a happy customer at all.

Which HIS cards?

Things you can try.

1. Update your mobo bios to the latest.
2. Ditch HIS Turbo and use Afterburner instead.
3. Afterburners on screen display will allow you to monitor temps while you game. Check this thread for a guide how to set it up.

Er, are you using the built in Windows remote desktop to connect to them? If so THAT is why your unable to access temps and possibly your overclocking issue too.

If so ditch RDP and use either the Chrome remote desktop app or VNC.

The MB has built in VGA so have a screen connected to that for local access. What I'm not sure of is if the cards 'dont work' unless they detect a monitor is connected. Does anyone know the answer to this ? I dont have a DVI-D monitor to test.

Ahh, well if the info is any use I have a pair of reference R290's in a mining box with no monitor/KB/mouse and they work fine, can remote administer with Chrome RD and Afterburner, GUIminer, GPUz all work fine.

Hi there

Afterburner works on every single 290 series card if installed (right version) and setup correctly.

Blaming the hardware or the supplier is pretty OTT.

You need Afterburner latest Beta 18 and it will allow you to adjust voltage -/+ 100mv either way and the hardware monitor can monitor temperatures, fan speeds etc.

Download the latest AB here:-
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

If you want additional voltage ability, then you need to flash them with an Asus 290X BIOS, only do this if you know how or look at the guide on these forums, but going wrong here can brick a card and void warranty, though chances are slim due to dual BIOS nature of the AMD cards.

i can vouch its not always the hardware, when i first installed my unlocked 290 there was no performance tab in ccc but changing to another version soeted that and then i was getting blackscreen with cod ghosts but after reinstalling the game its been rock solid ever since

Are you sure? :D

Afterburner would run the overclock on startup if you tell it to.

If your script mining you can set the oc in that too.

I don't think your trying hard enough :P

Agreed. Running 2 r9 270x with no monitor and have no issues ocing them while mining. As mentioned before - do NOT access your mining box using remote desktop. Use vnc/teamviewer instead.

setup and configure with mon/keyboard attached. Install vnc as a service. Set automatic login and start on powerfailure in bios. Test access works with vnc. Then move box out of the way :)
