Just a word of warning about CEX

if you are looking to trade in your laptop or sell it, I would advice not to unless
you have a half decent store

there's 2 stores I've been to now, which have sent off price requests for my laptop.. both times they have sent the price request with lesser specs than my laptop has so they can buy it for cheaper..I find this very disturbing.. first of all one store typed in I had an i3 2328 instead of i5 3230m..how did I know this? once the price request has come through, the item will appear on their site.. before the price request my model was not on their site.. but it now was..but with the specs as i3 which they never made in my model..also the price they offered me was the same as the 'i3' spec..so ok I declined their price of £230 trade in, knew what they was up to..I took it to another CEX thinking they can't all be like this..ok this time I get offered £270 the next day..they sent in another price request.. I had initially thought they got it right this time till I checked their site they had wrote I had windows 7 instead of windows 8(even thought full well knowing it was w8 after they asked me 3 times then checked for themselves)..which changes the price by quite abit.. as the laptop with lesser specs on their with w8 is going for £313 trade in but they had put mine as windows 7 to get the price cheap..

they still have it ' testing ' it after they 'test' it I am going to decline trading it in.

just a word of warning guys.. thought id let you know how sly these people are.
Just email them (the head office) the spec and they will send you a set price prior to taking it the shop . I've done it myself a couple of times. It's not complicated :)

After my Xbox 360 died I took most of my games to CEX (after letting friends have any they wanted for CEX trade in prices). They purposely skipped the 2 highest value games when scanning them in, most likely assuming I wouldn't realise. I had priced all the games up through their website before though and knew exactly how much I should have been getting for them so made them go through the lot again. It took 2 more attempts for them to actually scan every game.

I won't ever buy anything from them but will still trade in games/DVDs (always for cash, never store credit) as long as they are the best offer. I check quite a few trade in sites along with the bay and rainforest before taking my games to them.

My partner bought a 3DS from them as a Christmas present for my daughter, after I told her I could get it cheaper online... They didn't show her the condition before selling her it (and she didn't think to ask :(), as soon as she told me I opened the box and saw it had bad scratches on the case and screen along with no stylus. I told her to take it back and let me buy one online like originally planned. They would only offer store credit (same day return) and said she must have seen the condition before buying it.

They vary what they got in a lot, Ours in grimsby has the same rubbish in all the time lots of poor spec phones, ds's and xbox's etc.. One in lincoln had a Titan Graphics card in when i last went in! Poor soul who sold that in :/

Go on... how much was the 2nd hand titan with no warranty up for? same as a new one i suspect :p

I have only ever had 2 experiences with CEX, one was a good one, the other bad.

The good one was when i sold them my XFX 7970 for £190 cash when you could buy them new in Bolton for £230. I didnt think this was a bad deal as i didnt have to mess about paying an auction site or mess around with postage.
Funniest thing is, they put it up for sale at £280!!!!! and it was still sat there a week before christmas.

The bad one was when i bought a cheap hhd for a laptop, as soon as i tried to install windows it would hang, fearing bad sectors i took it back the next day where they said it would need to be "tested". As i was in a hurry i said i would call back the next day, it had still not been tested, anyway the whole saga went on for about a week and it was about 10 days in all before the money got put back on my switch card. As it turned out the hdd did have bad sectors. Loads of them. So i sternly suggested they "tested" their items before they sold them. For some reason it didnt go down too well.

Unless i turn into a crack fiend i doubt i will be selling to them again though but i do still buy the odd blu ray.

I bought GTA5 for £35 from Amazon and then one week later I sold it to CEX for £36 so in effect I was payed £1 to play a top game :D

The two in central London are ok actually. I sell most of my gear in there and just use the vouchers for my ever expanding Blu-ray collection.

Never had a problem with them, only one of the shops in London cannot seem to test hard drives properly. The Tottenham Ct. road is great, everything tests positive and i just get my voucher.

Cex have always struck me as being badly run in terms of the the current market and prices like paying more for items are selling on auction sites etc.

They far too often put themselves in a position of loss, people buying new stock and selling to cex for more than they paid and so on.

They currently want £150 ish for ps3's lol, is there a national ps3 shortage omg they are sold out everywhere hurry !

Only if you are unable to use a PC without the Start menu (i.e. someone who doesn't know the correct keyboard shortcuts)

Otherwise, Windows 8 is much better. Starts and shuts down much faster (thanks to the semi-hibernate shut down it uses), comes with anti-virus/spyware.. etc etc

It comes with microsoft security essentials which is free

I used to work for them a few years back on just a temp job over Xmas and they do try and rip people off without a doubt. I was told and I overheard the managers saying charge between 10-40% extra on most items which people bring in to trade then sell it for even more all of the staff are aware of it.

Yeah all these stores that buy items from you offer crap prices,I always have a little giggle at the price of their phones...who would pay £350-400 for a phone that's all scratched,chipped..locked to a network etc.

I do go in CEX sometimes but only for DVDs/Blu Rays.

That's pretty crazy they were doing that. Unless they had certain items they were planning on making a loss on in order to get people in and buying high profit items.
