Gaming Edition from MSI is @ stock @ 90°C VRM Temp (MSI 780 Ti TF Gaming)
I think those temps are fine...
VRM Temp on Gaming Edition with +200mV and oced would be really really hot i guess.

Yep I imagine that would get super hot. Reference VRM temps are ~80C I think.

Those reference pcb vrm are IR quality and rated up to 150 degrees C. Comfortable working is between 90 and 95 degrees C and anyting below 90 is pretty cool for them.

I can't wait to get mine delivered sometime this week, so excited to finally play BF4 on ultra settings, but I have noticed most people using the non ref r9 290 chooses the msi gaming edition over this sapphire Tri-x, is that version much better?

No it's "better" from what I've read if you want silent gaming the MSI is the card, but the sapphire offers better overall cooling at a sacrifice of increased noise.

Both would be great and I would choose either, probably the msi due to the better warranty but yer both are great cards.

But the msi lightning is also coming out soon with the 3 fans, isn't that going to be louder like the Tri-x ? Also will we ever see the sapphire r9 290 toxic ?

The lightning apparently will only be available for the 290x not for the 290. Hopefully that won't be the case with all the other brands.

I'm sure the lightnings will be noisier than the gaming edition yes, but also higher performance and a higher price tag.

there will probably be a toxic version yes, not sure when but I'm sure they will at some point. Would be silly not to!
