Android more popular than iPhone in the UK ?

Saying 'Android' is meaningless - its like comparing every version of Windows ever to OSX Mavericks.

The only one thing you can say about Android that applies to every Android phone is that its not iOS.

I still don't understand the fanboy ios is better or android is better. Each have their own merits/drawbacks.

I for one think apple sells a good portion because of its brand. Android on the other hand don't have very many handsets to revival build quality of apple.

Htc one is my favourite android to date. Impeccable build quality and rapid hardware as well.

cyanogenmod from my little play easily rivals ios user interface and its not locked down so could be a killer.

Shock as OS used on dozens of handsets is more popular than one used on two

This.

As for what's better, they're better in different ways. Depends what you want/prefer.

In my personal experience all over Europe I'd say about 70% of the people I see have an iPhone (4 or newer).

Well back in reality Android is dominating the smartphone market even more so in Europe with Android having 90% of the market in Spain for example.

Of course it dominates, the reasons for that should be obvious. The people I see out and about on their phones tend to be using an iPhone. You rarely see people on cheap Android phones; perhaps those people have a cheap one because they don't use it much.

It doesn't matter what you think or what phones you see people using, fact is there is a much higher chance of seeing users with Android in Europe than an iPhone.

You can make as many snide comments as you want about Android and it's users but the numbers don't lie. :)

Hmm, I think you've gone on the defensive here as people so often do around this subject. I'm just saying what I see (as other people have). Europe is pretty big too, perhaps it varies a lot from country to country. No need to be getting upset.

Android is on ten times as many devices at a greater number of price points, of course it will be more popular.

What numbers? That a dozen companies combined sell more products than Apple?

The numbers don't lie; just a pity there's not just 1 set of numbers.

I don't care whether one OS does better than the other as long as the app ecosystem is OK. What I want is a usable phone that looks nice!

No, I'm far from upset because I can backup what I'm saying where as you pull percentages from your anus and hope nobody notices. :D

Results from European Union five (EU5) are usually a good indicator, I can't see results being much better in eastern European countries.

Yes, you quite clearly are upset. I'm not presenting anything as fact, just what I've noticed. Other people have noticed the same. You're the one rummaging for statistics because you're so desperate for Android to be more popular. I tend to notice a lot of BlackBerry devices too, and they aren't doing well at all.

If I had said 70% of all phone sales are iOS devices, then you'd have a point. As it stands, you don't.

The thread title is comparing a brand of phone against an operating system.

That in itself is testament to what Apple have achieved.

What's got you so upset anyway? Are you saying it's not possible that I've seen more people with iPhones than Android phones? It seems bizarre that you've taken such great offence to me saying so, when it's just simply the case. If someone sits next to me on a plane, and they get out a phone, more often than not, that phone will be an iPhone. This doesn't even remotely translate to me implying Android isn't good - it is, by the way.

It is you Steve! you have been reincarnated :p

On a serious note. The majority of phones I see people with are generally iPhones but more and more people do seem to be getting Android and even WP. The Android phones are typically Samsung.

Having an iPhone as work phone and a Samsung Glaxy S3 as a personal phone, I do prefer Android over iOS for things like widgets and the awesome soccer center app.

The main thing iOS has going for it is the excellent app support but I feel that the the only thing going for it. But maybe an OS should just be inconspicuous rather than flashy and customisable. People just have different tastes

When someone can start a thread saying that the Samsung SuperGeneric x has outsold the latest iPhone then maybe you could elevate Android to the same status as iOS but until then saying Android 'dominates' is just meaningless statistics.

For the record I have a Nexus 7 as well as an iPhone / iPad.
