Android more popular than iPhone in the UK ?

I just want nokia to release an android phone similar to the hardware in their new windows phones and then i may be tempted at buying a new phone.

You might be interested in the Nokia Normandy story then.

Sounds like more of a S40 replacement than a WP rival unfortunately. I'd be surprised if it wasn't cancelled after Nokia agreed to sell its phone business to Microsoft though. I presume that some of the ****ed off Nokia engineers leaked the pictures. :p

It could be the key to windows phone hitting the big leagues if nokia continues to produce the same quality phones.

Assuming Microsoft didnt purchase them to start a patent war :D (wish they'd innovate rather than stifle competition).

Why are the engineers annoyed?, they are in MUCH MUCH MUCH more secure jobs now than what Nokia was offering.

Besides, that Normandy one was a completely forked Droid handset.

Swap that with Google and Apple in patent wars and you might be right, still, MS are making way more on Droid patents than WP right now.

Oh dear, I'm not getting into that one with you again.

Let's just remember what happened the last time that Nokia sold part of its business. All Nokia did was out-source the redundancy process. Do you really think that Microsoft will keep the majority of the managers and developers on?

Any engineer is going to be annoyed if the project that they've been working hard on is cancelled for political reasons.

Android is good for techies

Windows Phone is good for everybody else

iPhone is good for people with more money than sense

Without trying to annoy people, I'd swap around windows phone and iphone in that sentence :D:p

My friend at work has a windows phone and he's constantly annoyed with the lack of a released apps that have come to both Android and iOS. We're a team of 5 at work. 2 Iphone users and 2 Samsung users, with 1 Windows phone user.

I'm not saying windows phones are expensive by swapping it with the iphone in your example either, just your money could be better spent elsewhere generally.

If Microsoft offered a free way/easy way of getting into their app market I imagine a lot more devs would take the jump. At the moment its another £25 cost and complete app rework for a slim chance of gaining 50 users.

You can't say that. Wp8 has a very healthy market in the EU and is growing extremely fast(already over taken ios in one EU market(Italy), equal footing with ios in Spain. and is likely to overtake ios in the top 5 EU markets in the next quarter or two), apps are coming faster and faster now there's a decent market share. Not that I'm missing any other than skygo.

Easily verifiable as there was a million and one news articles when it broke 10% sales in the uk.

Annoying thing is its halfway through Jan and I can't find a similar chart for q4.

I have no idea where those 11% of users are, I've honestly only seen two people using Windows Phone out in the wild.

Ive seen a fair few. The funniest was when I closed my HSBC account, and when they asked why, one reason was there lack of interest in new tech, not just wp8. Loads of them working at the bank had wp8. Not sure if they got them cheap or what. But even now HSBC don't have a wp8 app.

The other thing remember these are sale figures, so there's obviously a lot more android and apple phones out there from legacy sales. But wp8 is doing extremely well thanks to Nokia 90% of wp8 sales and especially Lumina 520 which iirc has something like 1/3rd of all wp8 sales on its own.

Yeah I bought my mum a Lumia 520 because it wasn't an Android and didn't cost iPhone money. It's a good little phone.

Do you mean those are usage figures rather than sales? If they were quarterly sales figures then past sales wouldn't affect it.

It's mostly the cast of hollyoaks.

I do like Windows phone, I could see myself switching in a year or 2.

For the time being I'm loving my HTC One. It's the best phone I've ever owned (came from a 4s).

Those are sale figures.

Past sales affects how many you see in real life, as 10% sale figures doesn't relate to 10% of smart phone users having said phone.

All we need is some decent high end wp8 phones. Can Nokia hurry up please ok we have the 1520 but not everyone wants a 6". They need to hurray up and release the 929 which would be the first normal high end wp8 phone.

I wasnt prepared to spend high end prices on low rest screen and dual core CPU (now I'm itching to get 1320 or 929 depending if I can put up with a 6" phone), even if it handles everything fine now it may not in a few years. Which I think is a big reason why the low end is doing do much better. As wp8 runs super smooth in low med hardware.
